I was just thinking about that this morning actually. Unfortunately I just ordered a stock replacement one this weekend without that thought even crossing my mind.

Regarding the upload button... I have it in here.. It's probably something one of the moderators needs to change for you.

So, I pulled the cover off the T90 and found a chunk of tooth missing on reverse/1st. Too big to fix. Was ordering a overdrive from Herm anyway, so I’m gonna disassemble the t90 and make sure nothing else is toast. As long as it is apart, I’ll do all new bearings and other easy wear parts.

Not much work gonna get done this weekend—dr thinks I need a colonoscopy...y’all planning WHAT doc? Wife grins evilly. And up here in the sticks, they still jam a COVID test swab so far up ya nose I lost all memories of the ninth grade.

Found the Willwood MC. It IS on order. Parts gettting sorted for the transmission, building a Costco shelter for the other Jeep to live in while this baby gets built. Due to property lines and building codes, was only able to get 600 square feet of shop built. Big enough but not. County calls the Costco shelter a tent and doesn’t tax, restrict, or regulate it. Can’t put steel on it, but there have gotta be some pretty good covers for that thing when heat and wind ruins that shelter in a few years. I use barb wire t-posts driven 24 inches and slide all down tubes over them, then drill and bolt . In our rocky soil, a t-post puller cant pull one easily, and even my tractor with 3500 lbs lift can’t pull a post with out beating the post with a sledge hammer. Really want to get this POR 15’d and undercoated before the rains start .

Who has done a full floating rear send on one of these?

Well.... As luck (or not) would have it, I just had one of those on Tuesday.... And not the Covid test. You'll be fine. Prep is the worst part, then you get to take a medically induced nap for a bit and it's all over. Still a little sore in my guts today, but there WAS a camera snake up there 3 days ago. Hoping I'll feel like getting the new master cylinder put in mine this weekend and starting on the rest of the brakes between rain squalls.

Not sure anyone has on a widetrack. Narrow track uses the same rear end as a CJ of the era. I'd be willing to bet the outers -Spindle, hub, bearings, drive flange would be exactly the same as a narrow track. You'll just need different length shafts. If you're doing new shafts, might as well go 30 spline inside, 27 outer. But when you do that you have to change the side gears over to 30 spline also.... so, might as well put in a locker, right? See how it snowballs? :)

Hard to call it luck, but the cancer stuff is pretty hereditary in the men of our family. Not quite 60, and spent most of last year dealing with (successfully) stage three prostate and bladder cancer. Any guys reading this over 50, get a PSA test. The ONLY symptom I had was waking up twice a night to pee and a pretty strong “hunch” . If I had got the test earlier, I wouldn’t have to had so many surgeries. Or as much radiation. I know it’s off topic, but hearing about your experience helps me, and I hope anyone reading this gets tested.

Yeah....I get the snowball. I went from, “gonna slide the Kubota in and not do anything else yet“, to “ Gonna NEED and overdrive since the rpm band is so low on the diesel” to “open the tranny and see chipped gear“ to, “@$#&,!” There goes another two grand. But, the goal is a reliable rig. And it’s either spend money replacing everything on an old one, or buy another rig like my kids dodge or my JK. I was looking at rear end parts, and it will be another two thousand or so for everything including brakes. Then if I’m in there, maybe a small gear ratio change, then the front....yep. That’s a hell of a snowball! But the kids new dodge pick up was almost forty grand, and I think I can’t do a good job on this one for fifteen. And have something that looks waaaaaaay cooler. I put about five thousand miles a year on my other Jeep. I should be able to suffer with the FC with the same kinda miles.

I probably just drove right by you this weekend on my way up I-5 returning from the Rubicon. I've managed to gather the majority of the parts I need at this point to put a Perkins diesel into my wide track chassis. Fixing a couple other rigs is first in line, but I've taken some major steps towards a Perkins diesel powered FC recently. :D

Sorry I missed you. Would have bought a pizza! I've been plugging away at the FC. In bits. On another list, a guy used the axles out of Land Rover Discoverys for his wagon and his CJ 5. The narrowest axles the land Rovers had that are modern, full float are 61". But with the offset Land Rovers use, the outer tire surfaces are 66" outside to outside. That should fit under an FC. The land Rover axles have disc brakes on all four, AND passenger side drops front and rear. Lockers and free wheeling hubs are available pretty reasonably. I'm looking for a donor rover close by now. The GVW on a Disco One is right around 3 tons, and the Boys in Australia beat the hell out of them on a regular basis. They say they are good for up to 35" tires with the 4.10 ratio. If I could get those, I'd go down to 215/16 tires as well.

I guess I need to revisit overland diesels website. A number of years ago I proposed the idea of a kubota diesel to a hand full of other fc owners over dinner following the nw fc round up. At the time overland only offered adapter bits. My thoughts were parts availability and simplicity, and similar power output vs my cerlist, or even an f head I’d imagine. Looking at the photos though of this years FC Jamboree in Iowa this past weekend really got me thinking about doing something with mine.

    I
Gotta say the customer service Greg at Overland offers is the best I have ever been exposed to. He is on/off his real job 2 weeks at a time, so sometimes you might wait a week. But Never if your really need the help. He works up in the Frozen North as an engineer at a gold mine for Catepillar, working on equipment bigger than a house. Have a question? Dude sends answers, with pics, and asks for lots of pics in return so he can help others. I'd like to link some pictures, but I live really rural, and switched all internet to the phone, for some reason, it's a struggle to resize the photos for the required size here on my phone. But the good news is it fits pretty well.the engine cover fits without modification. I may have to go to an internal hydraulic slave cylinder, but I don't have unmolested shift rods, and won't know about that until I get some new ones.

I’m thinking they’re on the fc connection website. I saw them on the fc connection Facebook page and Dan devries who puts it on at his property I believe in Iowa. I’ve only made it to one of the fc get togethers here in the PNW but man those folks were cool as heck and very tight knit.
