Had the windshield replaced in the XJ two days ago. Haven't done any more tinkering on either CJ over the past week. I need to get my aux fuse blocked hooked up in the CJ5 and run the wiring for 12V/USB outlets in the back and on the passenger side. I may swap out the 2way radio as well.

Used the CJ7 to recover a bunch of scrap tin roofing and siding out in our backfield that I had been putting off since we moved in here in 2017 lol.

Picked up another victim just 12 minutes away. 74 or 75 CJ5. Has a buildable D30, D44, and D20. T14 and engine are unknown.

Not sure but they have the ring around them connecting the spokes. 15x8 as best I can tell. I need a 16x8 wheel but I can't seem to find one.

    Memories…
Back in 1987, I was 18 years old living on Kauai. I had a ‘78 CJ5 and a buddy’s Dad had the same with a rotten body. My Dad and I pulled up to his house, the 4 of us had the body removed in 40-60 minutes with nothing more than a hammer and pry bar.
We lashed a plank and milk crate to the frame with a pair of vice grips clamped to the steering column and there I sat for a mile and a half down the hill to my Dad’s shop!

    Good times!

I finished the modification to get the Land Rover Disk Brake Axles and coil springs mounted in the CJ5 Frame, finished boxing the entire frame and cleaned it up for Paint and primer. Next week is a family camp out with the kids and Grand kids so I guess it will hang from the hoist all week.

Fabricated a headliner for the Jeepster, used acrylic bath panels from Lowes and doubled up foil cover bubble wrap for insulation and sound. Whole thing less than $100.

Looks good and a great idea. Daisy might even want to ride in it.

Noticed something odd about the blue "6" the last couple times I drove it. Didn't run normal and idle was very poor.

Stripped down the CJ5 last night. Rigged up a lift to move the axles into the backyard. In the past, I'd just carry the axles from one place to another but my back didn't appreciate all that weight. The D44 isn't too bad but the D30....

I used the Yazoo to move all the tires/wheels to the tire and wheel emporium.

Took the CJ over to the upholstery shop and dropped the top off to have new velcro put in a few spots and one spot patched, then swung by the muffler shop and had new mufflers put on. The old ones were "turbo tubes" but parts of the internal baffles had rusted out and it was just loud for the sake of being loud it seemed. He put 2 new turbo mufflers on and it's much more enjoyable to drive.

I'm waiting for the CJ to cool off now for an oil change. I did a "snake oil treatment" on it using seafoam in the crankcase and did some seafoam down the intake. The stuff in the crankcase quieted a lifter up that was ticking. Engine sounds much smoother and quieter now. I've always been skeptical of "fixes in a can" but the seafoam in the crankcase worked quite well in this instance.

This engine had about 71k miles of unknown maintenance and ownership prior to my owning it. Judging by the rest of the Jeep I'm guessing the engine was neglected as well. It could probably use an overhaul but still has decent compression even though it burns a little oil.

I bought a genuine Albright Contactor for the winch. It's built for Warn but made by Albright, anyhow got that wired up and the winch works again.
(Warn Contactor DC88-1003P Part number 98381)
One day I might learn to spend the extra money now on something quality in order to save money in the future.

I'm going to Sicily this weekend so I'm trying to make sure everything is working as it should..... or close enough to how it should work. The rear universal joint/yoke ubolts are the same ones that survived the end of my last trip to Sicily and the joint needles are probably all gone as I can move the joint around about a quarter inch and the ubolts are smashed. That explains the rear driveshaft vibration that I've been having. I ordered 4 more universal joints and I have ~8 sets of yoke u bolts. I wish I had more faith in the anti wrap but this weekend will be the true test of it.

This constant leak from the bell housing

Was solved by a new TRANSMISSION FRONT BEARING RETAINER CAP (4-134) from Kaiser Willys in case anyone else has the same. Jeep is currently leak free! Installation was above my skill set so I took it to a shop

I like seafoam too....have had good luck with dumping Marvels in the jugs and letting it soak the rings and free them up on engines that have sat for awhile...

Agreed .......Marvel's is the best for that. Seafoam for lifters works great. Flush out the old oil & run one weight thicker oil often seems to do it ?
