Have a 65 Kaiser Model 8310 with Diesel engine. Have a part mounted to firewall that fuel goes in then back out…is there supposed to be a filter in it? If not, what does it do and where would filter be? Can’t find one…my son and I have just started working on it. 0CA81B86-B52E-4CD6-B034-F4434299C9EA.jpeg

Welcome from Michigan, Harward. That is a very cool Jeep, I like diesel's, that should be a fun project. Good Luck.

Good find! I just recently bought a CJ6 with the Perkins diesel in it. If you google Perkins 4.192 you will find some manuals online for the engine. I believe they were added by someone on this forum. The canister has something to do with the cold start system. It provides fuel to a heated element in the intake manifold. I wish I could tell you more, but I bought mine in dissembled condition and it will be a while before I get it all together. I’m sure we can all help each other out as we move forward. If you do t find the link to those manuals let me know and I will figure out how to post!

The 1927 Phantom I Rolls Royce I inherited in 67 had a Perkins P 6 in it. I kept it for 35 years thinking some day I could afford to finish the restoration, but gave up and sold it to a Dealer, it is now Back in England and has been finished. Rob even [IMG]found a Phan[IMG]tom Motor for it.

Thank you Al…was afraid was supposed to be a filter in it. When I first traced the line from fuel tank I didn’t realize there were two different lines…I was following the wrong one. Have now found the fuel filter tho that is on the other fuel line. Can’t wait to check out the manual

When I was in school in England I had a teacher who came to school each day in a 1927 DHC (Drop-Head Coupe) quite like that. I got him to give me a ride home across London in it one day. Not a diesel, I remember the engine had two complete ignition systems in parallel.

That is a nice ride Rick…what would it probably be worth now with it being restored?

I don't have any idea, Guy that bought it in England has it all done we never talked about money. I found a box in my storage unit with all fender mounting brackets and supports for it after it was gone. I contacted the Rolls Dealer I sold it to and got Rob's information, built a crate for it and sent it to him, he sent me $500.00 for my trouble. I sold the car for $8,000.00 was asking $12,000.00 let the Dealer beat me down. He was the only one that made me an offer, so I took it. I gave my two kids $1000.00 each from their Great Grandfather, and bought a New Snowmobile for our Cabin. I still have the sled.

It's a fuel reservoir that feeds the cold start mechanism in the intake manifold. It's part of the return system, and has no filter. After fuel runs through the engine and excess runs through the return line, it passes through this reservoir. The fuel level in the reservoir is related to the height of the return line to the tank. If the return line gets plugged, that thing will leak like a sieve out the top. The line on the bottom provides fuel to the preheater. Here's a good video on how it works. Looks slightly different compared to the jeep parts because it's in a machine of some sort, but function is still the same.
