Can anyone recommend a good insurance agent that has dealt with restorations?

My wife kindly reminded me that with fire season coming and the fact that my Jeep is still not operating under it's own power, that it might be worth exploring getting it re-insured. While I am not delusional in thinking that it is worth more than the sum of my expenses, with all my effort and modifications it's certainly worth more than the $3500 I paid for it in 2008. I do have a pretty good spreadsheet of expenses through the project.

    Thanks!

I use Haggerty but you'll need to get an appraisal done.

I'm pretty sure all the collector car insurance companies like Grundy and Hagarty require the vehicle to be complete and running/driving. I've had to submit verified photos of my vehicles before they would insue me. I also have to have the vehicles garaged.
If yours is still in the "project" state, I doubt you will be able to insure your Jeep. Maybe it would be covered under a homeowner's policy if it is stored in a garage and the garage burned?

Got Haggerty on my Jeeps military and civilian.
They have agreed value coverage at good rates and with my MVPA membership, I get a 5% discount.

Took pictures of the projects also and got Haggerty insurance. Sent in pictures and stated the value. (5K?) Those were in process, but were insured.

Just took one project off insurance and added two running M38A1's.

Sent in pics of the running Jeeps also and got them insured also.

went through this with state farm
agent told me cause jeep was in back yard garage . it wouldn't be covered in the event of fire
unless it had insurance on it . they offered a restoration policy . but had a time line to complete
didn't make it . and had to send pictures every month . so they canceled it :steamed:
now back to homeowners policy . if house garage was to catch fire it . any vehicle would be covered
that said I am glad to have Haggerty on jeep
mainly for the replacement value and it lives out back

Haggerty Here. Howard's correct & you have to have a garage space for it, also. I can only put 5k miles on her every year.

I'm insured though Hagerty on my CJ5. They want a bit too much for my XJ. I didn't have to send in photos or get it appraised, and garaging was optional, all it resulted in was a lowered premium. I'll have to double check but I don't remeber a 5000 mile limit, I remeber putting in like 10k miles year or something along those lines. I have an agreed value of 6600 dollars. That's a bit on the low side but acceptable to me. I didn't even have to talk to a person I went though their online application/quote process.

This cost me 193 dollars a year for

    Policy Coverages
    A: Bodily Injury Liability: $30,000 Per Person / $60,000 Per Accident $ 17
    A: Property Damage Liability: $25,000 Per Accident $ 21
B: Medical Payments: $50,000 Per Person Per Accident $ 17 Personal Injury Protection Benefits: $10,000 Per Person Per Accident $ 9
    C: Uninsured Motorists Coverage: $30,000 Per Person / $60,000 Per Accident $ 7
C: Uninsured Motorists Property Damage: $25,000 Per Accident $ 12
Coverage for Damage to your Auto(s)
Other Than Collision $67 ($0 Ded.)
    Collision $39 ($0 Ded.)
    Spare Parts - $750 Total Limit ------------------- Included ($0 ded) -------------------

My agreed value is 18 K, so that may be the reason for different limits ? $360 a year.

Can someone with Haggerty please reference their policy and see what usage is allowed? I have American Modern and their policy allows "occasional pleasure drives" or some verbiage like that. They specifically prohibit running errands with the vehicle. I'm wondering if Haggerty is more permissive.

I went though all of my policy documents the other day and couldn't find anything referencing that information. I did find out I have deductible free glass coverage :D

I'll go back and double check though.

Never mind found this in the . I have a "Classic Vehicle" policy for reference. But I can't find a reference as to mileage. I think I put 5ishk when I first got the quote.

    K. "Classic vehicle" means a motor vehicle of unique or rare design and of limited production that is an object of curiosity and: 1. Is maintained primarily for use in car club activities, exhibitions, parades, other functions of public interest or for a private collection; and 2. Is used only infrequently for other purposes.

I just went ahead and attached the Classic Automobile Policy, it doesn't appear to have any of my personal info in it. Feel free to review it.

For those that have USAA auto insurance, you can try American Collectors Insurance which services USAA customers in the area of collector/vintage vehicles. They MAY insure non-USAA folks, but I'm not sure. American Collectors Insurance requires that a vehicle be "restored" and running, but in two different instances I've been able to send some photos and explain what I'm doing and they've given me the coverage with ease. Like many collector's policies there is an annual mileage cap (2,000 miles in this case if I recall) but that's more than enough for me. I think the policy I have runs about $120/year for my '56 CJ5.

For what it's worth they have Antique, Classic and Everyday Driver policies. Thye'll cover my XJ as a daily driver for about 600 a year. That's about 300 more than USAA right now but with better (full) coverage.

Just an update on American Collectors Insurance.... Just got my renewal stuff today. I haven't looked at my policy in detail in a while, but one of the new changes is the ability to up the annual mileage from 2500 to 5000 miles (for an extra $10 per year) and now they allow for "occasional commutes", $0 deductible on glass claims, $150 personal effects coverage, and pet insurance (if desired). This is on top of the towing, spare parts and a couple other goodies I forgot were in the policy.

I mention this only as a reminder to review your documents to make sure they meet your needs more often than I review mine...which is hardly ever :)

I've got USAA on my regular vehicles, so I will check American Collectors also. Hagerty has worked well for me though.

When I finally get the 64 CJ5 back on the road, I would like to be able to log more miles on it.
