I am in the process of building a 1975 cj5. We fabricated a new frame with 4x2 steel tube. Rebuilt the 258, t14 and dana18. Now the fun part of setting the drivetrain. I took a ton of pictures and measurements prior to the build. Unfortunately I didn't get any of the drive axle and angles. Does anyone have this information available? The angle currently looks have to me. We have everything tacked in place knowing we still have adjustments to make. I need to get a new angle finder this afternoon. image1.jpeg image0.jpeg image2.jpeg image3.jpeg

I guess I need to clarify what I am seeking. Not too worried about the driveshaft angle. I can correct that. I don't remember the angle of the drive shaft being off center from the transfer case to the diff. Can someone verify this as normal?

That side-angle is a non-issue because the misalignments are equal.

On the rear, the angle of the pinion pointing up needs to match (or be 1-2° less to accommodate for torque wrap) than the measurement of the transfer case output pointing down. If they aren’t close to matching, you’ll get a bad vibration and short life from your u-joints.

Up front, the pinion angle isn’t as important as the wheel caster. Set the caster to 5-7° and the pinion angle will fall where it falls.

    Good luck!

Your welds for the frame angle look to be straight up and down. You might want to plate them.

Thanks. I didn't remember it being offset, and just wanted to make sure before we go any further with getting the angles set.

Yes sir, the welds are straight up and down. We plated on both sides interior of the square tube drilling 1/2" into the tube and spot welding. the plates extend 6" on either side of the joint weld, with 5 holes on both sides. We were looking for a cleaner look for the jeep and went that route. A friend builds bagged chassis, and uses this method without any issues. I hope he is correct.
