I don't know. Normal behavior for the starter solenoid should be providing power to the coil only while the starter motor is cranking. The idea is to bypass the ballast resistor while cranking for a hotter spark while starting. I'm not certain that your starter solenoid provides this bypass connection, but that's a common setup. If the wire from the solenoid does not shut off, just replace the solenoid. It's a very common service part.

Picked up a solenoid just now. Going to do some more testing before I throw any more parts at it, tho.

The Jeep should still start with that wire from the solenoid disconnected. In the start position, the ignition switch "run" terminal and "start" terminal should both be connected to the 12V input of the switch. You could leave the wire to the solenoid disconnected and taped off and see if the problem goes away.

Worst possible outcome. Now it’s not having ANY issue shutting off. [facepalm] and i didnt do a darned thing that i can attribute to the change.

other than having the battery fully charged.

Well, I appreciate all the help, and i’ll have the spare solenoid in case i need it soon.

I still think i’m headed towards a full re-wire. Just too much goofy stuff going on. Shopping my options.

Pretty sure the HT wires on my '56 are original.

Hello fellow 198’er. I did a complete rewire from scratch, no harness. Not too hard. Good luck.

Haha! Im sure others can do much better. Mine is such a Frankie that a harness would be a waste in my opinion.
