Upon further reading, I found that this Warn 6014 is also referred to as the "8200" and it's truly a rare & oddball specimen.

    Here are a couple documents.

    8200 Owner's Manual
    8200 Parts List

The current predicament is the motor situation. I haven't contacted Herm yet because I'll use him as a last resort and it'd be nice to have a modern replacement motor that is readily available.

So the armature.... The shaft is .750" OD with a single Woodruff key and the shaft is drilled for a cotter pin. The armature bearing measures 2.047". The newer 8274 motors use a 20 spline shaft and the gears are 18 teeth like mine but I can't say if they would mesh correctly. The 8274 bearing measures 1.5748 OD and the ID is .669". I called Warn and the guy pretty much told me to kick rocks..... I also called another place that sold older warn winch stuff but he said I was SOL besides maybe Herm and had no idea if new stuff could be used on it. I dropped Gigglepin a line and will see what they say. I might just go ahead and buy the newer warn motor and gear and see what happens. The old armature shaft has this adapter that the bearing presses on. I have a few ideas to make this new stuff work on the old. I'll keep this updated with my findings.

The guy at Gigglepin asked for pictures and I sent all the ones I had. He'd never seen or heard of this model winch so he contacted a friend who might know more about them. I have a good idea of how to use the new stuff but I'd like to hear from someone who deals with winches all the time. I won't lie. If I could find a hydraulic motor to put on it that'd be real cool. It might move too slow to be effective though.

Set the winch up there and marked off the spots to cut off. Getting it back out of there was tricky. The odd shape and weight make it difficult to handle. It'll sit a few inches lower when installed. I think I'll drill a few holes in the frame and weld in nuts to capture bolts from the top.

Ingenious use of a Meyer plow upper for a winch mount!
I'd be interested to see a pic of the back side, and how they mounted the lower half of the winch..
Looks like a plate was added to it?

I can get you one tomorrow. The plate was bolted to the front of the existing winch mount then it had two support arms that bolted to the winch plate base.

What is the diameter and tooth count on that pinion? I have both the 8274 keyed and splined motor versions I can compare.

18 tooth measures 1.201" in diameter across the teeth. Much appreciated. (y)

The 8274 pinions for both the keyed and splined versions are 18 tooth/1.221-1.225" OD. I suspect the .020" difference probably would not matter. The 8274 motors are nominally 4.5" OD and the winch housing motor bearing bore approximately 1.570".

More work on the winch mount. I refused to cut the support bars out so I butchered the mount to go around them. This might work or it will fall apart. I'll bead blast the mount and weld it up. Still plan to bolt it to the frame. Might add a couple more mounting points on the bottom that bolt to the cross member. The plow upper mount still fits. Ha! I always wanted a bulldozer. :D

I got an email from Jim at Gigglepin with some good information. Seems I am on the right track. Hopefully, this can help others in the future. I did contact Herm last week and he never said if he had motors available for this winch; just that it was a 3 pole motor with solenoids.

"I would recommend buying a quality later type winch motor (The type fitted to later 8274 for example).

You can then make a simple adaptor to fit the pinion bearing to the case. Any machine shop should be able to help you with this.

When you purchase the motor also purchase a late style Warn 8274 splined pinion gear (pn 98380)
This has the same tooth count and tooth profile as your original input gear.
You will then need to work out where you would like it to sit on the shaft and then make a spacer to size.

Then you need to turn a circlip groove on the armature shaft and find a suitable circlip to hold the pinion gear in place.

    It’s that simple."

This winch uses a motor with the pinion gear separate from the shaft.

When I bought the winch, the previous owner told me he had someone cleaning up his shop and they threw the motor parts away.

After last weekend I decided I really do need a winch. I ordered a bunch of parts.

Took everything to the local machine shop. The guy seemed to understand what I was doing and decided to take just the motor and old bearing. They'll whip me up a bushing and the guy wants to make custom spacers to set the gear depth so I guess I'll let them do that too. In the end, if this all works, it'd only be a quarter of what a new 8274 would run me.

I bought an Albright style contactor and 1/0 wire for the winch. I'll be wiring it for in cab control of course.

Picked up the motor. I decided to make my own "spacer". The hardware store didn't have what I needed so I used a stack of washers with a couple of different thicknesses. I guess if I have to remove the motor I'll actually make a spacer for it. Luckily the hardware store had the snap rings I needed for the shaft. One thing I wish the machine shop would've done is chamfer the edge of the bushing. They chamfered the ID but not the od. I knocked the edge down with a file.

I measured the lip in the housing to the edge of the gear and compared that to the new motor shaft and set my gear depth. Iirc it was around .556".

And there it is... Warn 8200 with a "modern" motor and pinion gear.

Post a better pic of the ratcheting brake side so we can see how they did it.
