I think maybe it's a bad ground. Don't have time until next week or late sunday to test that theory tho.

    Nice trucks !!
Are the axles interchangeable from an early CJ5 to an early FC or vice versa ? .... or any year for that matter ?
And are the original wheels the same style from an early FC to a early CJ5 ?
    Thanks

The wheels have the same, 5.5x5 pattern.
The axles are not interchangeable between the fc and cj.

On a Narrow track 150 they should interchange with a CJ-5.

So, the issue with the brown one running (not turning over) turned out to be a bad positive cable connection on the battery. Old crappy universal battery terminal connector and corroded wire. I wire wheeled the terminal, cut the wire down to good copper again and then screwed everything back together. Runs pretty good again. So I got that goin for me.

GF hopped in it and drove it out of the back yard and parked it on the street last weekend when I was re-arranging the yard. I think she liked it, but she's still not convinced it should live with us permanently... And, I'm not convinced it's a keeper yet either. It has its upsides and its downsides, but if someone were to make me a good offer, I'd probably send it down the road. Not actively pedaling it yet... Part of me wants to dial it in a little further and get it really road worthy, but I also have way more projects than I need including 3 more FC's, and the money tied up in this one could go to other things. Decisions, decisions.

This post makes me happy :) glad to see you're getting good use out of it. We went to the dirt yard this week too, but took my dad's 7x12 dump trailer. What a difference it makes not having to shovel it all out one scoop at a time!

A little slow to read this but yes the narrow "tread" FC axles will bolt on to a CJ 5. The only real difference is the bigger 11" brakes on the FC's. The narrow FC front axle is also still a D25, not the closed knuckle D44 of the post 57 wide tread.

Went to fire it up this weekend and the battery was almost dead. Little testing revealed the alternator is not alternating currently. Should probably remedy that

I'm going to update on this thread as it has some relevance, not necessarily to this particular brown FC, but to the parts in general that I picked up on this post originally. My thought for awhile has been to use the 4.203 Perkins diesel I originally thought would be the replacement for my 4.192 perkins in my CJ-6 that didn't work out. I'm unwilling to modify the CJ-6 to fit the 4.203 and it's lack of bosses in the block for the Jeep motor mounts. What I am willing to do is modify the wide track FC chassis I picked up last summer to accommodate said 4.203 Perkins diesel.

The only thing I was missing from the equation was the method to connect the 4.203 to the T90 and a flywheel/clutch assy. Since Jeep obviously mated those with the 4.192 in the CJ-5 and CJ-6, I knew those parts were out there somewhere, it was just a matter of finding them. I'd pretty much given up on finding the factory parts, but last week those parts kind of just dropped into my lap so to speak.

So- Back to the original plan of taking my widetrack chassis with the Dana 44's, installing a Perkins 4.203, T90, D18 and overdrive into it, and then plopping my best body on top of that. That's the orange one pictured earlier in the thread. I'm super stoked to have gotten these parts. It will still be awhile before I get going on this build as there are a few in front of it still, but I now have the necessary parts to actually pull it off. That also probably means the brown narrow track I've been driving will find a new home when this one gets closer to completion. :D

Nice FC project(s)! I love those flat-faced little things.

I had several non-running FCs years ago. The engine in my '58 was seized, and the cylinder head was too cool looking to let sit. I decided to make an industrial lamp out of it (see attached). It'll be hanging (again) in the small house I'm building at the moment. I love the way it turned out, and I've never seen another like it.
