My rope arrived today! USArope & Reocovery LLC made good on the order and 150+’ of 5/16” winch rope was delivered to my gate. The rope appears to be of good quality and has that same slippery feeling of my Amsteel blue and Warn winch ropes. It fills up my 8274 nicely, although I still need to stretch it.

Hopefully Custom Splice has their supply problems worked out these days. I ordered 125' of 3/8's Amsteel from them in 2021 and they took almost 7 months to get it to me. Not that they didn't charge my card from day one---- I'm another that doesn't have any trust in the Amazon no-name chinese. No doubt some of that may work but because I have a winch that needs to work each and every time I need, that stuff is not something I'm going to buy a loto ticket for.

I'd bet that 100' of 3/8" would fit just fine.
I just put a fresh 100' x 3/8" rope on my jeep for Christmas.

Your winch is a 15 year old or so budget line Warn and made in USA. It came with 100' of 5/16" cable. Kyle posted that 100' of 3/8" rope will work with a similar winch. That is good
first hand information. I posted yesterday on Project Farm's winch test where he broke a couple of ropes below rated capacity. You get what you pay for with ropes or you don't.
Others experience is the best measure and plan on replacing ropes as a maintenance measure depending on use and exposure to the elements.

I still like a roller fairlead even with rope. But you need to be a bit picky if going that route with tight clearance in the corners between the rollers. I left 0.020" on my 3B version and made the rollers from Delrin. The jury is still out on whether or not that will cause problems under load with a little roller deformation. I've used a reverse pulls (stringing cable under the Jeep to pull rearward) several times over the years and a hawse is really going to be tough on rope in that situation. It's pretty tough on stock rollers. I bent the lower shaft in my Warn version.

I know this must be done, but have always wondered why.

I believe it has to do with the synthetic rope getting caught in the corners of the rollers and fraying the rope.

I just bought a line for my JK from them and several friends have used custom splice with good results as well.

Broke a wire cable pulling out a pickup. Used his cable. The cable broke and made a nasty sound. We hit the deck and nothing got hit. Sure scared me though.
I think a synthetic rope would be much safer.

I wasn't asked, but I did the 5/16 diamondback mainline for my 8274 build for my JK. 125' length. The smaller line works just fine in my experience and you can fit more on the drum. Around here sometimes length is more important than girth.
