    Project creep...

We took a trip to Costco, ended up with new flooring for the rv.

I started tearing out the carpet, and now we’re shopping for a new toilet. We hate this old one. It’s coming out for new flooring, it would kill me to put it back in.

So glad to get this old carpet out. It is grosser than gross.

The horrible thing is, it’s not even wallpaper. It’s like a printed coating on hardboard. I’m not sure paint will even stick to it without some crazy prep work.

Anyway, we picked a floor color that is neutral enough to go with the existing cabinets and walls, but will also work with the paint scheme we might eventually go with.

Sounds like you also need new cabinets and walls, wonder if you can find someone who knows how to build those:watch:

That should look great when done!

Did the carpet go right under the walls? If so, was it difficult to get it cut back under there far enough to not have fibers sticking out?

We've used our motorhome for sight seeing travel (2-3 weeks at a time) as well as camping. It's a great way to travel and see the country. I've shown my kids so many places from coast to coast. About the only places we haven't visited is the far north east and the Texas / Oklahoma area. 2 places I'd like to go back to see a little more are Utah and Washington DC.

Yes, the carpet was laid down on the floor platform, then the entire body was built on top of it. Cutting it out was (and continues to be) a royal pain. I’ve been cutting it as close as I can, then pulling out any strings with pliers. There are still a few rogue strings and fibers, but they’ll get tucked in afterwards.

This is going slowly. It’s about as bad as I expected it would be.

I got the toilet out today, and I cut the old mounting ring out, since the mounting holes are on a 45° angle, and most new toilets are a standard orientation.
Plus, it is also mounted on top of the carpet. The seal was dried up and cracked, which probably explains the smells being pulled into the cab when any windows are open and moving.

You bought yourself a home renovation project! At least it's small in a relative sense.

Bathroom floor is in, and the new toilet flange is in place. I’ll address the cover for the utilities after I see how much flooring I have left.

We had to make some decisions on the booth seating before I can put the flooring in. It’s so cramped in that area, it’s not really practical as an eating space or a sleeping space, and it’s a source of major congestion when just walking through. There’s always someone sitting sideways on the seats, and there’s not enough room to even walk past their knees. Not to mention, the back of the front seat prevents the driver’s seat from tilting/sliding back far enough to be comfortable, and I’m short.

We decided to eliminate the “bed” option from that space. What I started with...

The seat frames are aluminum. I removed the seat backs and cabinets to expose the framework, and I cut part of the frames away, eliminating the minimal under-seat storage that went unused anyway.

I’m going to get two swiveling captains-chair-style seats with seat belts for these platforms, and I’ll make a table that folds down flat against the wall. Lots of birds killed with one stone. More room to get through, safer, more comfortable traveling for the kids, and a more user-friendly space in general.

Now that that’s decided, I can move on with the flooring. Out comes more disgusting carpet!

We got rid of both a dinette and freestanding table in our fifth wheels. For the amount of time you spend actually eating they just weren't worth the space dedicated to them. Not to mention how horrible they were at providing eating space to begin with (cramped, tippy, small, uncomfortable).

Hopefully you have some metal within reach to grab for seat belts, and not just more furring strips, paneling, and plywood.

I'll throw this out too - the Ikea Poang chairs make excellent RV furniture. Light, affordable, and comfortable. We got rid of the RV table and couch and used 4 of the Poang chairs:

You just need to build a push-out for more space.

We actually like the booth in our rv. A place to eat, a place to play games, and a place to sleep, which we use as a family of 5. Directly across from the booth we have 2 swivel chairs with a narrow fold up table between the 2. It gives a close by place for our 5th person to sit and eat.

I've been looking at class A pushers, which almost all have a table and 2 chairs, but I would prefer a booth.

It's looking good! Carpet in the bathroom is one place I'd like to change to laminate or vinyl. We did replace the toilet a few years ago.

I won’t share what the underside of the carpet looked like in the bathroom.
