I have started the teardown on my 3.50 first gear saginaw and am remembering yet again how I really need a good set of heavy duty snap ring pliers for transmission work. What do you guys own and recommend? I'm tired of the needle nose pliers and screw driver routine.

    Thanks

    Todd

I haven’t tried the Knipex but have tried just about everything else and SnapOn is always my go to for flat tip style. They just work, especially when some jerk put the snap ring on backward.

Knipex is all we use at work, I have 2 sizes of inners and outers. Never wore a set out in 20 years of use. These are used daily, we have 400 molds and the average mold has around 54 snap rings for quick connect water fittings on it. The tool setters will break or loose a dozen or so daily.

Proto at work for me, same set as above and they get used daily. Knipex is also very good. For transmission work I would recommend a set of parallel jaw lock ring pliers as well

I have Knipex and snap-on, (the set of knipex I have are a bit thicker and don't fit everything but I like them.

Snap ring or lock ring pliers? If you pulling down a transmission you'll need a set of these. They don't use those snap rings with holes in them for the above pliers, they use a solid locking ring with a gap in it. The pliers below will be a god send for you when tearing down that trans.

Well you could use a good set of snap ring pliers as well, everyone could :)

Knipex all day. These and these will tear down most Jeep drivetrain components.
