Hey, anyone have a Good product for coating the shop floor? Good or bad experiences. years ago I coated my new shop floors with a Muralo two part product that they no longer make. It was custom tint-able and has held up well.

I used a light grey two part urethane epoxy years ago. It has held up well.

I used a Rustoleum epoxy kit from Home Depot. I followed all the steps, it went on nicely and has held up well to a wide variety of abuse.

As with any coating, prep is key.

The home I sold last year I coated the garage floor with a big box store kit. Not really happy with it after 18 years. This year I did the floor in my new garage. Did a lot of research and decided to spend more for a quality product. I purchased polyurea from Garage Floors LLC. Good cleaning, light acid wash. I did one coat although they recommend two. Rolled on. Coverage was as advertised. Very happy with it. Glad I didn't use a two-part epoxy because it would have set up before I got the whole thing done.

I'd point out that there is a forum dedicated to this topic at GarageJournal.com Flooring - The Garage Journal Board
More info than you can ever read.

I had planned to coat my garage floor, but it's not been high enough priority to get to it yet. If you want to go epoxy, you might check with your local paint supply and see what is available. Benjamin Moore, for example, has its own line of epoxy floor coatings. The big box kits are water based, and not very durable - from what I've read. You also need to do something about skid prevention - plain epoxy that's wet or oil-spotted is like ice without some traction aid. The big box kits give you vinyl chips to broadcast over the floor, but there are alternatives.

You might read some at EpoxyProducts - Epoxy Garage Floor Paint Links - I have purchsed and used their products, and they are top notch. I've used and recommend Aluthane moisture cured urethane from them for years, and I've used Low V epoxy for wood rot repair. I poured out a left-over cup of Low V on my garage floor a decade ago, and the spot is still shiny and wet-looking as new.

My coating has been on the floor 20 years. The only problem has been where my wife spins the tires trying to get the car over a hump at the garage entrance. She has burned the paint off in one area.

Urethane epoxy? I don't think such a thing exists. Urethane and epoxy are chemically different: carbamate vs epoxide. Exactly what product did you use?

    Polyurethane - Wikipedia
    Epoxy - Wikipedia

Since many epoxies tend to yellow when exposed to sunlight, they are often over-coated with a UV-resistant clear coat, which I would guess can be a urethane. You can use urethane paints as a garage floor coating - see the epoxy products page discussing Aluthane as a garage floor coating.

    I don't really remember...

    I do remember:
First we used muriatic acid to wash /etch the cement.
Then we mixed the paint and hardener, had a limited time to apply, and rolled it on with paint rollers.

Well I ended up going with Armor Garage. As with any floor prep is the Key and a PITA. I'm really happy with the product, it turned out great.

Sherwin Williams Macropoxy has held up really well after 15 + years of heavy use.
I cleaned the floor after the concrete cured and then etched it with Muriatic Acid and then washed and dried the floor until the Ph level was neutral.
I used two part concrete self leveling joint compound and then mixed and rolled the Macropoxy on the floor. The two part joint compound I mixed in plastic ketchup bottles and applied joints. It was July and very hot so we had to move fast. When rolling the floor, I used a brush around the edges and put masking tape around the rollers and then pulled it off to get rid of fuzz that would end up in the coating.

I did not put in any shark hide for grip, so when oil or water get on the floor it gets slick quick. Oil and grease mop up quick and floor jacks and creepers and engine hoists haven't hurt it.
I did top coat it with a clear also. I have worked at body shops with this flooring and it holds up great.

Not cheap, but only did it once. I have used lacquer thinner to clean up spilled paint stains with no damage to the coating.
Going back to the body shop, only the place where the wheels from a small lift have worn off the coating from every day use.
