Hey Tim. Yeah the copper tubing came from flaps, used my tubing bender. The spring loaded seats are Holley pieces. Probably the same as the TA carb, can't verify though. I read on some boards the spring loaded seats really aren't necessary if you do the bowl crossover

The forecast for today was partly cloudy, but not rain. It's been raining all week and it's going to start raining again tomorrow. My shop is my driveway. I had today to wire-wheel the paint off my jeep project's roll bar, fix the welds, paint it, and install it in the '68 jeep.

    What I started with:

    The state of the welds:

I wire-wheeled the paint down to bare steel, ground down the welds, rewelded the joints, painted the cage, and got help lifting it into the jeep.

I still need to drill holes in the new floor pans and bolt it into place.

Finally had a chance to take the '71 out for a drive after all the carb/ignition work. Drove it about 15 miles on the highway and the gravel roads. It's really running great. Way more top end power and it lugs better down low. Got gas and apparently didn't snap in the locking gas cap all the way since it wasn't there when I got home. :(

You can see how excited Emmett is:

Took one of the "dirt" roads on the way back. The clay here turns to sticky pudding with a freeze/thaw and some moisture. Made it through in 2wd, but had to hose 50 lbs mud from the fender wells:

Well last night, not today, but close enough, right?

Speedway motors hot rod nostalgia steering column (with old steering wheel for mockup). I gain about 2.5-3" of clearance between my gut and the steering wheel. :bananatool:

I have some question about the install, though. posted here:

I hate mud. Such an effort to clean up. In my younger days I loved it. Nowadays I'd rather go around if possible.

Day before yesterday I had to reseal the exhaust headers and used some permatex ultra copper this go round. I had 3 leaks per bank with the dry Fel Pro gasket. I went with a differet felpro gasket his time and used the ultra copper and it seems to have fixed my leaks. I also took it into town and got it inspected and road legal which is when I noticed how bad the exhaust leaks were.

Yesterday Now that the CJ5 is into road legal running shape I took the kids out on a loop of some dirt roads. The wife opted out for now lol. They also wanted to go camping and we weren't able to make it up to Oklahoma/Arkansas for the weekend so we took them to the back of the property to go camping for the night. The oldest wanted to drive her Jeep. I'm going to have to add some self tapping screws to it's "tires" for traction purposes. So we putted into the back field in low range 1st gear.

Next on the list is a new fuel level sender, I didn't realize that the old pickup needed a "sock" filter so I can't pull the last 3 to 5 gallons out of the thank and the old sender isn't working right. Not looking forward to dropping the tank. I may put that off till later this week. I've also got most of the parts I need to rebuild the suspension back to a factory format on the way as well.

Took the '68 our for a drive since things seem to go bad faster just sitting than getting used:

Don't get much better than that. They just get older and the parts will cost more.

After dinner, I had some time to work on the '71. It's got the original cable clutch but the pedal return spring, the clutch fork return spring, and the draft seal were all missing. It was adjusted so the throwout bearing was always compressing the pressure plate a little big and holding the pedal up to the floorboard. A real mess all around. Amazingly, it never seemed to slip.

The pedal originally being pulled to the floorboards by the clutch cable:

The pedal now in the proper place with draft seal and a hardware store return spring:

Now it's adjusted so the clutch engages mid-travel. The clean threads show how much I had to adjust it. I added another hardware store return spring to the clutch fork. This spring may be a little soft, but it's better than nothing for now. I haven't found a source for the original springs:
