Did some searching on the forum and couldn’t find a similar previous discussion. Sorry if this is a duplication.

I’m replacing a brake master cylinder for the first time. I ordered the Raybestos reman from Rock Auto and when I went to move the pushrod assembly over to the new one I noticed that what I assume is the surface/face of the primary piston is not conical like the old one, it is flat. My push rod has the conical retainer like the TSM shows. I was worried the new MC would not accept my original push rod retainer set up as a result, but I went ahead and installed it though and it seemed to take it with some slight pressure and I re-installed the snap ring. Now I’ve started to worry that maybe the shape of that retainer puts additional static pressure on the pistons that isn’t intended, if you follow me. For those that have done this before, did you do the same thing or get a new, universal push rod set up with rod retainer that looks more like it would engage a flat surface? Pics of my pushrod parts, old, and new MC’s attached.

Manual brakes or power brakes? Typically the master cylinders are different.

Manual. Old and new MCs seem to be identical externally as best I can tell except for this.

You'd have to check the depth, but it looks like it would work if you pull the conical clip/washer/snapring off the pushrod and used it without them.
