Got the interior wiring knocked out, got the tail wiring mostly done except for the grounds, and got the engine bay wiring harness laid out. Waiting on the copper tubing kit for the oil pressure gauge, removed the wiper hardware out of the old windshield frame, hand pained the Jeep embossing on the tailgate, and the CJ-5 emblems. You can tell where I was a little shaky on some of that lol. And epoxied the original worn/faded AMC emblem back on the tailgate.

    Got started on teardown today!!!
Got most of the interior out. I am taking it down to the frame and making everything right!! 94636B52-B5CE-4B2A-AA59-F660A48BA0E7.jpeg

I made an Instagram to document the process. It is 73.jeep.cj5 if you want to follow!

Yep. The jeep in my avatar had a slow drain when I bought it. The tachometer was wired to an "always hot" circuit. I wonder how many years (before I bought it) the tachometer had been solidly "on"?

Facing all the carb and ignition woe go away with a simple diesel swap.
That being said, one other huge problem with ethanol gas is it is hydroscopic. If you have an older machine of any type and reside in a wet environment the fuel tank will eventually rust out. If you have any sort of gas powered equipment that sits a lot it would be way in your best interest to find ethanol free fuel.

Be sure to put a couple of coils of tubing in it, so the engine vibration doesn't eventually snap it.

Its starting to look like something now. Brakes bled, wiring nearing completion. It does crank. Both fenders and grille on. Shifter installed, oil pressure line ran gotta clean up the wiring around the battery.
Even with the painless harness wiring is still time consuming. Im glad i decided to NOT build my own harness.

Done I needed to use up some extra tubing anyway.

After pissing and moaning about ethanol and vapor lock on FB one of the fellas shared his hack. 86 CJ7 filter with a return line connection. I also rerouted my fuel line to get away from between the distributor and water neck. We'll see how it goes today.

That fuel line Looks good but where does it return to?
I recall having to move the fuel line away from the water neck on my 4.3
since it had a non Chevy quadrajet the inlet was from the front I had to find a chevy carb to get it off of the water neck.

The fuel filter in the above photo is not positioned correctly to prevent vaporized fuel from entering the carb. The filter must be mounted horizontal with the third nipple in the top position, or 12 o'clock. In this position it will work properly sending vaporized fuel back to the tank.

Agree with Chuck here ............ Fuel Filters typically go in horizontally & have a "Top" & "Bottom" to them .:flag:

She ran like a scalded dog today. It is 20° cooler though. The 1" shorter pitman arm much alleviated the white knuckle effect.
