You need a buick bell housing. The special 71 one won't work. The bell housing needs to be redrilled and the bottom bolts need to go into the SM420 from the inside of the bell. You may also need to machine the top of the bel housing to accept the shifter cover. You need a chevy 10.5 inch clutch 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE 5.0L 307cid V8 Clutch Kit | RockAuto. you need a new pilot bushing More Information for DORMAN 690014 and a release bearing 1970 CHEVROLET K10 PICKUP 4.1L 250cid L6 Clutch Release Bearing | RockAuto. Pick a release arm 1970 CHEVROLET K10 PICKUP 4.1L 250cid L6 Clutch Fork | RockAuto

Buy the appropriate Novak adapter. Adapting the GM Muncie SM420 to the Jeep Dana Models 18 & 20 Transfer Cases

Buy the Transfer case mount from Novak and other make new driveshafts or have them made. I used Tom Woods for my rear and made my front. Custom Drive Shaft Shop | Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts

Regarding the overdrive, the Novak kit should come with a 6-spline output shaft that will work with your existing T-90 output gear. The output gear is the special part - a "bowl gear" - you need to connect to the overdrive. The V6 never came from the factory with a T-90, only the T-86 or T-14. If it's a really a T-90, you should already have the Buick bell housing and an aluminum adapter to connect the bell to the transmission.

No personal experience, but Novak has a page that covers engine placement: The Novak Guide to Installing Chevrolet & GM Engines into the Jeep Universals, 1946-1971 You can use the frame towers from a V6 Jeep, or you can buy mounts from Novak or likely other places, or you can fabricate them.

This year I took my jeep on the Epic Colorado trip to Silverton. The first couple of day's on the trail I got pretty ****ty gas mileage. I think going uphill I really went through a bunch of gas. But then Jen, James Orofino's wife found my gas cap and I got much better gas mileage.

As mentioned, this swap has been done a thousand times or more over the years....
    From what I recall:
The 420 bolts to the V6 bellhousing after a couple of the holes have been drilled (tapped) out in the bellhousing.
One of the lower mounting bolts (maybe both) have to be installed from the inside.
The stock clutch will work; I used LUK on mine.
I use a 1 piece clutch cable on mine; the fork end had to be lengthened.
I use a heavy cast GM t/o fork that was modified (shortened) and GM fork link. (Stock V6 arm would work too)
The OD mounts to the transfer case; you just need the correct output gear on the rear of the transmission to match the OD; 26 or 29 tooth.
I used the Novak adapter to adapt the 420 to D18; AA is shorter in length I believe. It would come with a 6 spline shaft to mate your gear.
For the engine frame mounts, several companies make those.
I used factory V6 engine frame mounts; these help to position engine with correct offset; weld them to your frame.
The front driveshaft clears the transmission; I use the V6 smaller diameter u-joints on my front driveshaft.
I use the 4cylinder radiator with the lower neck swapped to the pass side.
I have AA V6 conversion headers, which made my Saginaw steering conversion easier.
The floorboard needs modification; and new location for D18 shifters will have to be fabricated as the conversion moves the levers back; I had to heat and bend my levers to make them work. OD linkage had to be made as well.
Your driveshaft will have to be lengthened up front and really short in rear.
Note that the 420 conversion was the last major modification I performed. All others had been done before about 1983 when the V6 was installed.

Maybe start a new thread for your conversion ?

Thank you for the information. Currently the v6 bell housing has another adapter behind it to hook the T90 to the V6 it’s like 2 inch’s thick plate . I think the PO did set it up this way .but I like the Sm420 for the low 1st gear . This is my first flat fender . I have done 2 cj7 my last one 1986 cj7 that I converted to 4,0 and AW134 out of 2000 Cherokee. I love this site you are an awesome group .thank you again

Mine takes 4 quarts to read full on my dipstick. And the dip stick says 4 quarts right on it. For me, 5 is definitely to much!
Here’s the dip stick on my 225, the one that goes directly into the block
