I just picked up a 68' commnado and wanted to upgrade the steering and brakes. Who makes the best disc brake kit? The steering upgrades look pretty involved, are any kits easier to install then others?

The brakes should be like a CJ, lots of info on disc swaps on here if you search.
As far as the steering, I think parts from a newer Commando would work.

There are some changes to the factory Ross steering that you can make. I don't know how this carries over to the Jeepster. You would have to research to see what could be done to a Jeepster. Search the site and read everything you can find here and online about steering conversions both for CJs and Jeepsters.

Steering conversion should also be like a CJ. The site has a thread that shows steering conversions.

I think you are correct, that any steering upgrade requires both planning and fab work. Not trivial.

I recall a '71 Jeepster has Saginaw steering, so parts from one of those should be close to a kit. '72-73 Jeepsters have a different frame and engines, so parts from them are probably not helpful. Realize there are many fewer Jeepsters than CJ-5s, so if there is no kit for a CJ-5, it's a good bet there is no kit for a Jeepster. Advance Adapters offers this bracket for the CJs 716838 : Saginaw Power Steering Box Mounting Plate for Jeep | Advance Adapters - I believe this is as close to a kit that exists.

If you aren't up to the fab work, check with your local 4x4 board and see if there are members that do fab work like this.

    Advance Adapter's kit for CJs:
716806 : Jeep 1942-1970 Power Steering Kit (Borgeson Style) | Advance Adapters
Still requires significant fab work. Would be up to you to adapt it to a Jeepster. You will also need the engine brackets, pump and hoses, and steering gear.

Mr. Timgr is correct. My 71 jeepster had factory manual saginaw box bolted to the front of the frame.
