Nice having the kids n grandkids over;) I got 12y/o Rhea into the shop to do some stuff, you know, get her involved, make memories;) I taught her some soldering skills on some scrap wire, how to crimp, solder. She's at an age of would like to earn money for her own "projects" (slime, squishies). I was kind of wanting her to pickup time on sewing at home, even here she can play on my leather sewing machine. I think it must be tougher for kids today to pick up a trade, learn how to do things, or the want to vs cell phone movies and games. Even my own kids never had any desire to learn what's under the hood~ sad.

Monday I should be wrapping up some of the wiring, at least be able to hear the starter engage;)

I had a little time~ connected the ignition switch, headlight switch, got the headlights and front parking lights operational! I have fire to the starter and coil(coils not here yet, on the way). Waiting on a new speedometer; should be here this week I'd say.

dumb question, but is it ok to start the engine with just the headers on, no exhaust?

I don't have an answer, but isn't there some issue with backpressure if you run the engine without the exhaust system on? I'm curious as well, because I'd like to start my freshly rebuilt dauntless, but it will only have exhaust manifolds and possibly the y pipe.

Dne'..... From my experience, with many different vehicles is.... It is best not to run the engine long enough to heat it up.... if you only have the exhaust manifolds on it.... because if the engine is hot and the cool air temp enters the heads via the exhaust manifold after it shuts down... it can cool your valves too quickly, causing them to crack..... But if you have exhaust pipes, down to the Y, where they join..... connected to your exhaust manifold..... then the engine will cool slowly.... a muffler is not needed.... only some short length of pipes or headers... will be enough to slowly cool the heads slowly... I have been starting and running my Dauntless V6 , that had been sitting, un-run, for 8 years..... it started right up, no muffler, no smoke, sounds real good and strong, and good oil pressure... go for it..!!!

This is what I have heard, you just confirm it;) I just soon wait and take it to the local muffler shop and have the exhaust. I'd hate to have warp/cracked valves on an expensive engine! So, I don't even have tires on it yet  And I wasn't looking forward to the loud exhaust noise! I've still plenty to do believe me

Wow, that is beautiful! I’m confused about where all the rust is. I mean, it’s only a year newer than mine, so it should look fairly similar, right?

my dawg spent months out in garage with me . putting jeep back together
about the only time I would kick her out was when welding
came the day . to test start jeep . open headers
dawg hasn't been real happy to be in garage , if I even look like I am going to start it
anyway open headers (long)and exhaust manifolds(short) or two different things
I vote fire it up :D

Thank you Robert;) I guess I should be thankful that it wasn't a rust bucket like some I've seen, but it still had things that needed fixin
    [IMG]

Ok, maybe I'll just run it long enough to know that it will start, and that would be a good thing. :D
Just about completed the dash wiring, can't seem to get the oil idiot light to work on the dash. I don't need it as I have an oil gauge, but I'd just like it to work. Just no power to it for some reason.

I would wait to start it. After starting the gas will be sitting in carburetor and gas tank. Do not know how much longer before you will start driveing it. Guys just have problems with gas sitting in there vehicles.
I put a oil pressure gauge in my Jeep and have a idiot light too. I screwed the mount for the gauge on the bottom flange of the dash. When I take the screws out, you will not know it was there. No big hole in dash

That's a great point (y), I have tires to get, and that will probably be next week, and yes, I don't want gas just sitting in the carb;)

They lose their stickiness when warm. Not immediately but over time. I bought a bunch and the only ones that fell off were in high temperature situations.

The miata seats that I do have are miatamecca seats and there aren't lesser expensive seat upholstery for them, so I found these miata seats on ebay for 250 free ship. I ordered the lesser expensive seat upholstery which I've used on a bunch of miata seats. MrMikeshttp://www.mrmikes.com/ makes upholstery, but for about 5-600. The 99.oo ones work fine for my cause.

Other than the seats, just been cleaning up the shop. working on figuring to fabricate a tow bar  to get the jeep to the muffler shop.

So stripped these down for the occasion, repaired the bolster, blasted the seat pans, now just waiting for the upholstery to get here;) Not sure if I want to install the head rest speakers~ they really don't put out a whole lot of sound, it'd be a bout 200bucks to put the speakers in the head rests. I'm thinking some roll bar speakers like those in boats?

I’ve never been a fan of speakers blasting sound at my head. Even in-dash speakers or rear fender-mounted boxes just seem to point noise at you. I went with under-seat boxes with the speakers pointed down, and I’m really glad I did. The sound is just all around you.

I was planning on using something like this, but they wouldn’t fit between my cage rails and I had to make my own boxes.
