I have a few new additions (pics below). One is a 53 M38A1 that I've been jonesing over for some time. It has a Ramsey 12,000 pound PTO winch. The PTO underneath I need help with. It works but I haven't seen one like this. Any help?

It's a Spicer 18h rear output pto primarily used for rear/side farm implements but as you found can be very versatile. Worth about $50-$75 used from what I've seen. Nickmil

Edit: PS, nice collection! Very cool stuff.

Interesting, I didn't think there is enough room to mount a 12K unit between the frame rails.

Looks like your winch is mounted "backwards" so it has to be driven on the passenger side, I'm guessing someone cobbled this together because they had a "reverse" rotation winch to use. Stock "normal rotation" Ramsey installs have the winch mounted so that the clutch handle is on the passenger side & towards the back with the input & drive shaft running on the drivers side. I can't tell for sure from the pics but the PTO itself appears to be a stock Spicer 18H. The chain drive looks like a custom kludge to get the drive shaft over to the passenger side.

    p.s.- Nice Collection!

That has been the general response - that the fire department picked up parts at the local tractor supply store to use a winch they had available.

I'm going to try contacting the fire department to see what information I can obtain. Old in-service pics would be a nice bonus.

If you're looking for tech data Ramsey still builds these winches, you can find manuals for them here-

    http://www.ramseywinch.com/industrial/manuals.html

The Spicer PTO is dirt simple, two bearings, a seal & a dog clutch.

Theres some rebuild info on my 8000 lb. Ramsey on Tonk's webpage if you're interested.

I'm winching up this old thread because I am trying to fabricate a passenger side driveshaft for a Ramsey reverse rotation winch and have a Spicer PTO like the one shown in the second picture. My issue is my PTO has a sprocket mounted at the output and I'd rather have a flange so I can extend the shaft and sprocket further to the rear of the jeep so the drive chain can clear the rear driveshaft, similar to what is shown in the third and fourth pictures.
Question is - anyone know where to get a flange that fits the rear splined shaft of the Spicer 18H PTO?
The PTO output shaft has 10 splines and measures 25mm major i.d. and 22mm minor i.d.
Appreciate any help that can be provided.

It will be a standard sized agricultural equipment spline & but will be defined in inches rather than metric.
