Its just a 5.3 out of a 2001 GMC Sierra. The block is new from Summit Racing, rotating assy is stock (all other internals new) . Howards Hot Cam , Z06 Valve Springs, Dare I say a Holley intake and Edelbrock 600 carb lol. Msd 6010 Ignition controller. It will have a TH350 behind it. Gonna be a tight fit but doable easy enough, a step up from the 150 hp 304. The jury is out on an oil pan swap, have to see the clearance, I'm not a hard core off roader so it may be ok.

LOL I see, its all about the $$, I'm retired Mil. so the bucks aren't that huge :) another 1k for complete frame or I have 124$ in 2x4x3/16 (cross members) and 3 x 3 x 1/8 tubing (body mounts) and did it myself. I will be ordering TDKs saginaw steering gear mount though. What can I say, I'm thrifty (or broke, depending on how you look at it :)) The frame rails are nice, I'm sure the complete frame is a work of art

    Jeff,
I used a Camaro oil pan in my LS swap to help with front axle clearance. Have you looked at harmonic dampener, water pump and accessory options? A corvette dampener and accessories save about 1 1/2 inches in the overall engine length. Your 74 has more space then my 65 so you should have no problem fitting everything. You might be able to cheat the motor forward an inch or two to save on driveshaft length as well. And I did use a full TDK frame. I should have gone with the rails like you did, but I was pressed for time trying to get mine to a roller.

I have a Camaro pan bookmarked if needed (I'm sure i will), I got my acc drive brackets from LSX Innovations , it will put the PS Pump and Alt up high in front of the heads and uses the truck WP & Balancer. Just eyeballing with a tape measure I should have about 3-4" to radiator. May have to give Tom Woods a call for driveshafts.

You definitely will . My rear shaft is 14" long , center to center. Electric fans on a 2 1/2 " radiator is a start for layout with an auto in a CJ5. It'll be nice to know that there's another CJ5 Auto around . Pretty cool ..... & rare.

    CJ6Bumperettes.jpg

My license plate is now center-mounted on a tough stainless backing with a single LED light for illumination. I'm running two right-hand tail lights with no window to illuminate the plate. Mostly I wanted the bumperettes to provide protection for the tail lights, since they are scarce in good condition. I had to straighten and electrically refurbish the one that did not come with my Jeep. The bumperettes are '76-up type from Crown, and don't fit very well. The holes are spaced about 1/2" too close together to fit the existing holes on my rear cross-member. Some work with the die grinder (on the more-expendable bumperettes) took care of that. Very difficult to get the nuts on the inner bolts - I gave up on the lock washers, and held the nuts to start inside the channel with the needle-nose vise grips. Once I had the nuts started, I could put an open-end wrench in the channel and hold the nut for tightening. Loctite will keep them from loosening.

Previously I was running Mike's shackles (McRuff) front and rear, but the rear of the top would just touch my garage door, only on exiting. Should be ok now with shorter original-style shackles on the rear. The Jeep is more level now, so that's an added advantage.

Hi, today made a patch panel to eliminate this gas tank hole in the bed.

Then put the tub back on the rotisserie to work on the next part of the tub, hope to be painting in a month or so;)

Thanks Jim. Hopefully tomorrow I can get through a gear change in the front axle (not likely since I don't have bearings yet) and then it's all easy stuff to prep for Rubicon.

The rear shackle hanger bushing was gone and PO used a piece of rubber tubing. The outer bushing sleeve was stuck so I used the saws-all to get it out.
