    X2 on button bolt.
Some guys say that one of the 4 dist. cap hold down screws (plastic outer casing) rubs/hits intake or bolt when advancing the timing andIf so, they just moved #1 wire over one terminal thus fixing the problem. I never had this problem.

This is a normal issue with HEI on the Dauntless. Like the others said get a button head cap screw. I also removed one of the four hold down clamp bosses from the cap on mine, I have had no problems and the HEI makes an excellent performance upgrade.

Thanks guys , I'll go grind a little more at a time and get this taken care of. I haven't sent it back, and plan to make it work:cool:

Most aftermarket intakes have already corrected the HEI clearance problem. Just like what Buick did with the 231.

NOTE: I did not explain how to solve the cap hold down clamp well. Guys would simply clock the rotor one notch forward or back from normal position and then start #1 from that point. Thus solving the hold down clamp from rubbing.

Does this look correct as far as orientation? You'd think they could have included the plastic piece which holds the wires on top of the distributor:(

Looks pretty good. The test will be the cooling fan near the vacuum advance once installed.

Looks good......as Focker mentioned fan to vacuum advance clearance might be tight. Used to buy 90 degree vacuum ell fitting to route the vacuum hose away from the fan. Also you can change out the vacuum advance unit so the "pot" has a 90 degree port instead of a straight out port like what's shown in the above pic. Once she's up and running, take her in and have the dizzy and motor dialed in on a dyno. It does make a diff.

NOTE: from trial and error, we found that the dist. hot wire should be minimum 12 gauge. We went to 10 and noticed a higher voltage output at the coil.

Hey dne, I was thinking about your color scheme conundrum, and what about something a little more "out there" but still period correct?

Kind of funny, but the 2128 Sublime looks close the color of the Jeep I posted earlier , I really don't want to do another orange color(been there done that), So, the Sublime being era correct, I like it.

There are many colors coming back from the past, Grabber blue comes to mind. My fathers '73 Ford pickup was Grabber blue and some of the current Mustangs are that color. So, "era correct" doesn't have much meaning to me. Besides, it's a great deal of work and money to paint a vehicle, so I feel I can paint it whatever I desire (y)

I would like to accomplish the matted hood/grille going into the cowl and down like this picture. Not so sure about the windscreen/windshield frame being black, however, it might look good along with the roll bar being black too. Whatever happens, it will look great;)

I do like that last jeep. I'd love to see what you decide to do with it.

I think some variation of this would look awesome! I bet you could make it look really special. I like the color being carried over to the wheels. I know you did something similar with your brother's Jeep and that looked great.

I've always been a fan of the late 70's Porsche color Tobacco, if the 70 I purchased hadn't just been painted gunmetal grey, this would be my color of choice. 315_AB4AC2D53B874071766393B156A533B5.jpg

I think the windshield frame should be black. Matching the body would make it look to modern.

Gee, that girl is cute ~ makes me want to go out and get a face lift!

I'm just putting my brothers jeep stuff up for thinkin , If I go with a black frame, on the cockpit side, I'd like it the same color as the jeep, so if I were to install one of those jeep rubber dashes, that would tie it together, meaning, the inside of the wsf (Windshield frame) could be black, but the metal dash would remain body color. I do like the idea of the black which would hide the windshield rubber.

I was so disappointed when I received the hood decal in gloss~ it was supposed to have been matte:(
    [IMG]

I put these in my brothers jeep, there's still an amount of flexing in the windshield frame. I'll never put my windshield down(don't like my hair getting blown around anyway), what would be a more permanent mount~ any qualms about the black rubber dash?

Just curious, but what year is this, and would that windshield frame fit my jeep?

You can use a windshield from a jeep up through '75. After that they windshields were tilted back and angled at the top. You don't one from '76 on.
