I think what norcal was implying was that the stock springs from kaiserwillys are not the best in terms of ride quality, and there are much better "stock-sized" options out there from companies such as BDS or skyjacker to name a few. The kaiserwillys springs are stiff, is all.

Assuming the truck rides similar to a wagon...the oem ride quality is superb compared to an early cj...maybe the longer wheelbase, wider axles and wider rear frame with spring mounts etc....wife rode around in mine yesterday and even with LT tires at 34psi and 9-10 leaf spring packs, finally understood why I am excited about it as a multi use driver. Even the D18 is quieter! Get rid of the glasspacks and junk exhaust and it will be pleasant sounding. Some upgraded seats and aftermarket heater (maybe AC although not a must in Colorado) and it could be really comfortable.

KW has 8 or 10 leafsprings for this application, we went with the 8's. They don't seem overly stiff.
Trucks and wagons have the same front suspension. The rears on the pickups are a God-awful monster of a leaf Spring that would look more at home on a Mack truck. I think I'm going to start pulling leaves out of it and see what happens lol :)

Little guide coat action, then one final prime, before paint.

In my continuing quest to add power steering to Tonk I milled some flats on the end of the genny armature to mate with the pump drive coupling.

2 weeks ago I started a simple 2 hour project of replacing the body mount pads. When I got to the 4 across the rear, 2 of the body brackets had broken off. So I had to drop the gas tank. That allowed me to weld some 1.5" x 1.5" steel angle in to replace the broken brackets.

Since I had the tank out, I decided to clean up and paint a bunch of rusty spots on the body and frame while I could access them

I also installed some D-ring brackets to the rear cross-member. I got them from the 4 wheel parts store. The bolt pattern on them was a little too big for the CJ, so I relocated the holes and trimmed the bracket bases down.

Also while I was under there I put in a $7 eBay LED off road light.

And I decided to clean up the wiring that runs along the inside of the rear cross-member.

And I decided to repair the fuel level sender, clean out the fuel tank and repaint the tank shield.

So my 2-hour project took 2 weeks.

But it turned out okay, and the new body mounts did improve the handling noticeably.

Remove my windshield frame in preparation for more body and paint work on the cowl and windshield frame. I’ve got some rust issues inside the windshield frame that might necessitate a new frame. I’ll know more once the glass and seal are out if the frame.

Only the sides, both rear corners and two new front fenders. Now it goes back for the cowl and windshield frame. Then, next fall I’ll take the hood and grill to them loose off the CJ for a scuff and paint. It’s certainly unconventional to paint in sections but it works for the shop and I’m not without a Jeep for long periods.
My Jeep club has major events in the spring and fall that are can’t miss event so I can’t be without the CJ.

I don't know where my sons truck came from but it was full of very fine reddish brown dirt...packed up in the doors and rockers and frame. So since its back on 4 wheels we rolled it out into the alley and pressure washed it real good inside and out...getting wet and muddy in the process!

That's a good looking truck your son has! The patina is perfect and the firewall's paint looks good. Love the decal on the door. Do you have any more info to share regarding history, future plans, or links to previous posts?

He bought it at age 14 with his own $. It was just a roller...frame, axles and body. Its a little beat up, it was an old ranch truck, but its not rusty which is why I wanted him to get it. We bought a beat up 86 F150 as a donor, the 302 (rebuilt) NP435, 1356 tcase and 8.8 rear axle are all going in the Willys. Front axle is a Waggy 44 converted to 5 lug with the F150 hubs and i found a Scout II ps box (hard to come by these days) for it.
Basically, we plan to have a stock(ish) looking 1949 truck that drives like a 1986 truck....

So a "friend" of mine had too much to drink one night and found himself ordering parts of eBay. (I know, he has a problem)

So this "friend" ordered what he thought was a NOS steering shaft worm for a CJ2A. But as it turned out it was for a military MB/GPW or a really early CJ2a when they were trying to use up military NOS parts left over from WW2. So the early model CJ2a's (up to serial number 18,XXX) have worms that meassure 40.5 inches, and the later model CJ's (serial number 20,XXX+) are suppose to meassure 41.5 inches.

Well today the shaft came in, and I'm pleased to report I think it will work. Its 98% identical to the one being removed, with the exception of the streering wheel mounting threads are a tad shorter. Time will tell but the only recourse might mean using a military steering wheel compared to a CJ? Everything went into the Ross steering box with zero issues.

That was a close one. I'll be at the bar with my "friend" celebrating.
