Laying paint on the bracket tonight. Installing it when the new alternator arrives.

Bits and pieces showed up so I could finally put the radiator in. The following is boring and nit picky, but might be useful to someone else installing a Champion radiator.

Here you can see the need for spacers. The back of the grill shroud is has a flat lip all the way around. However, my new radiator has the side mounts about 5/16" off that plane. The top tank isn't a big deal because it overhangs, but the bottom tank hits the grill shroud long before you can tighten the mounting bolts. It seems like the brackets were just welded on wrong. These 5/16" aluminum spacers make the front of the radiator flat so it can bolt on cleanly:

The spacers required getting new mounting bolts can nut-clips. The original ones are an odd design and not long enough:

Spacer with new 5/16" bolts and nut-clips:
    20200425_113729.jpg

With everything bolted up, I've got about 3/4" clearance between the fan blades and the bottom tank. About 1-1/4" to the core. I'm comfortable with that and decided to leave the 1/2" fan spacer on and not mess with the distributor:

When you drop your Crescent wrench while running a tap through the alternator bolt hole, there is only one place it will end up:
    20200425_113356.jpg

Here you can see where I re-drilled the mounting hole to lower the radiator 3/8" so the cap doesn't hit the hood.

Had to drill the shroud mounting holes larger and bend the tabs on the nut-clips to clear the welds:

Upper hose is now too short. Off to the FLAPS:
    20200425_132007.jpg

The lower hose rubs on the oil filter. Zip tied a piece of the old upper hose in the rubbing zone. Eventually, I'd like to cut and angle the spigot on the radiator. Not today:

The shroud needed to be clearanced for the alternator pulley. Some zip tie routing for the overflow hose, and finally....
A new radiator with a shroud and no leaks!

If that radiator was advertised for your jeep I would send that write up to customer service. If not I would send it to customer service as a "hey do this and sell more radiators"

Bolt that holds passenger seat frame to the doorframe somehow became loose. I tightened it up real nice!

Burn permits were allowed again, so we spent the weekend dragging trees around and burning stuff. The old 3b was on task for the heavy work. At one point, I mentioned to my wife how I couldn’t believe that old thing dragged the one tree up the hill. She replied, “I can’t believe that thing starts. It just looks like it shouldn’t.”

changed out the original e brake cable. It was a pain. The bracket that holds it on the t case had to come off 4 or 6 times every time pouring oil down my arm. Also had to sheath it in stove rope so it doesnt melt by the exhaust since the new one is plastic. hopefully it holds up. Also topped up all the fluids and greased all the nipples. done

It's taken me over a year to get a replacement tub on my jeep. I've had this jeep for over 30 years and it need a new tub from the day I purchased it. It's crazy to think about how you just ignore the things that aren't quite right. Today I put a new Bosch Tachometer on the steering column and decided to adjust the engine tuning. In doing so I discovered my vacuum advance had gone bad so I replaced it with a new one. Wow what a difference in how well the engine runs. It seemed to run OK before but all the stumbling has now disappeared and it's definitely a lot more zippy.
