Did the 75 cj5 have lighted side makers? I am finishing my build and was wondering if I should place them in? I would need to drill out the hole if I do or can I not put them on the jeep.

Yes. Both front fenders have rectangular indent for a lighted marker. From the factory, if you have the tail gate and side mounted spare, you will have a rectangular indent on the drivers side rear, and a round light in the center of the spare tire bracket. If you had the solid back panel and rear mounted spare, you will have a rectangular indent with lights on both sides.

FYI , My '75 has the marker Indents on the Front's only. The rear has surface mounted marker's , with no Indents. I have a tailgate & the Tub / Body is stock from the Factory.
    AFIK,
1975 CJ's did not have Rear Indents for the Rear side markers. They came stock , Drilled for the 7/8" bulb hole at 6 " up & 5 " in , from the flat of the rear fender. The rectangular lens then screws on , in 2 places , going forward of the bulb holes. Here's a Pic of mine :

Just checked my 75 Renegade. The back doesn’t have indents for the side marker lights.

I went out to look at my '75, and it has the indent. I have never known an intermediate that was missing the indent on the driver's side. Passenger side, no indent unless it's a solid back panel version.

    Here's a '72 for an example:

Suggest that any '75 left rear corner without an indent has been repaired. Rear corners are often damaged, and aftermarket repair panels may come with no indent.

I 'm not disagreeing with you........ But two Questions
Do you think that's a detail on the CJ6 only.?
What do you think of these pictures ?

CJ-6 only? No. The pic of a '72 I posted above is a CJ-5. I saw a lot of these Jeeps in the day, and they all had the factory indents front and rear. I handled the repair panels too.

You can't see the indent in most pictures. I have pictures of my CJ-6, but I had to go out and look to confirm. I can't tell the year of the tan Jeep, but there's nothing extraordinary there.

The green Jeep is not a Renegade, since they will have a solid back panel. It's common to remove the side-mounted tire carrier on Jeeps with a tailgate and mount a clearance light directly on the surface of the right rear fender.

Both appear to have boat trailer taillights, which makes me suspect they have been smashed in the rear at some time.

Where I worked, when customers bought a new Jeep and opted for a swing-away carrier, the they would remove the side-mounted carrier and its light. The light is round and has been covered a lot here - it's now being reproduced (Barneys?) The mechanic would take the round light from the tire carrier and mount that on the surface of the fender. With the side mounted carrier, there is a grommet and hole about 3/4" diam in the fender for the harness to come through and reach the factory light. They would enlarge this hole and mount the round light there. I have seen the same done with the rectangular light, in the correct location but no indent.

In the parts book, there are lots of versions of this side panel. They separate by Jeep logo design, and tailgate or solid back panel. In the day, you could have purchased repair panels for any of these variants. Many fewer options today.

Was curious, so we went to take a look at my 73 that is definitely still original. On the driver side there is the indent. Also still has the dealer sticker on it.

On my '74 the drivers rear has the indent. Passenger side had the spare and no indent. When I moved the spare to the rear I added a drivers side marker to the passenger side and surface mounted it. If I didn't point out there was no indent, not sure anyone would notice.

Sorry to be such a naysayer Lockman, but I would reconsider whether your Jeep has been repaired or not. It's not the original color and a lot has been modified. Even if the panel is original, repairing the rear panel is a lot easier without that indent. And there is a motivation to make both sides the same - easier to make them both flat like the right was originally than to fab an indent for the right (assuming you have a tailgate). Can't say for absolute, because I wasn't looking for this trait in 1975, but I saw dozens of these Jeeps and never noticed this aspect as changing. It is something I paid attention to, since it affected my original '75 CJ-6 that I bought new in 1976. And the picture you show is way earlier than a '75 - wrong logo, wrong mirrors, nobody bought those skinny tars. Jeep routinely recycled old photos that are wrong in detail for the TSMs. This looks like a prototype photo for 1972. And I would not claim its not indented ... or not.

I'm cool here , Tim ....... you've got way more experience with this than I do. I was just trying to help johnD with what I believed. You've really got me thinking here, though
Question : The rear indents would still be ' Felt ' on the inside sheet metal, if they were just filled in & over , would they not ?

My long lost cousin & uncle :) did this rebuild on his '75 that he bought it new in Nevada . It had 52 K on the clock when they started in late '95. I visited & helped a bit on the mechanical work tear down , before body & paint work . I've got these before pic's, when the body work was done ..... I helped with this back in '96 , also. I know , for a fact , that there was no sheet metal work done to the tub? BTW, I never did find out what became of the Hard Top. :(
