I removed my oil pan to clean the inside of it and I removed the oil pump pick up with the float when I did this so I could clean it also. When I re installed the pickup after cleaning it up, I did not put any sealant on the flange where the bolts go through to secure it before bolting it back into place. I am wondering if I need to go back and do this now as I was looking at the rebuilding manual by Moses Luddell and saw where he put sealant on his. He said he did this because you want these two surfaces sealed really good so air won’t get sucked in between the flanges causing the oil pick up to not work as well as it should. What say you ?

As far as the seal in timing gear cover goes I did not put a new one in because the one that was there looked fine and truth be told I really didn’t pay attention when I took the cover off so I didn’t realize there was a replaceable seal. Moses also replaced this during his rebuild so now I’m second guessing myself about this.

The engine is still on a stand so I could go back and correct both of these issues if the pros on the site say it is necessary. The idea of having to refit where the oil pan and timing cove meet when reinstalling the pan does not thrill me but in the scheme of things it’s not a deal breaker as I may as well fix it at this point if it needs fixing. Thanks for the help !

The oil pan gaskets I use come with a little gasket for the pickup tube flange. I would suggest reopening the engine and putting something in there, obviously it's important to get a good seal. I have a pickup tube gasket here, message me with your address if you want it.

As far as the timing cover I have no experience there.

Oops, I didn't use sealant on my pickup tube flange when I did my 134 rebuild and I was more worried about the bolts coming loose. Haven't noticed an oil pressure problem. Don't use RTV on the flange if you decide to seal it.

Personally, I would replace the front and rear crankshaft seal while it's on the stand but I understand if you don't want to do the rear one. I would at least do the front. Slip on the crank pulley on before you tighten the timing cover bolts.

It's temping to do other things when it's on the stand like replacing that plastic timing gear and making sure the oil sprayer is cleared.
