I know it has been discussed here before, but I cant find it. I'm using a YJ (I think) steering box for my power Saginaw project on my cj6. The pitman arm is going to work out just fine looks like except the taper for the drag link end doesn't seem to be deep enough. Needs just a little more depth so I can get the keeper on it. What exactly is the size and taper of the reamer that fits and where would I buy it?
    TIA
    Tim

    Tapered Reamer

I think you could surf Amazon / web to cost shop. They are fairly common.

If you have never used a tapered reamer before, I would offer the following advice, 1. Use cutting oil 2. NEVER turn a reamer backward (in a non-cutting direction) this will ruin the reamer, 3. Check the seating depth of your drag link end often, the nature of the taper makes small cuts to make large advances in seating depth. Proceed with caution. Good luck!

I think Tim might be asking for specifics on the reamer. There are several "common" tapers. The one Rich linked is for a 1 1/2"/ft taper. I can't confirm this is the taper for a YJ pitman arm.
Sometimes, when you think the tapered bore is too small, it is actually due to a mis-match of the taper angle. There is more than one standard taper. This works in reverse too. I made this mistake many years back. I tried (unsuccessfully) to make an adapter to wedge in there to make things work. I ended up finding a different tie rod end that was correct for the pitman arm I was using.

Thanks guys. Yes, I am hoping to find the correct taper for the standard tie rod. I think the rod end in the same for the earlies and intermediates? Ya or na?

I have reamer for use with inserts from OK4WD. Are these the same size? I used them for my Dana 27 Tie Rod flip. I can go check and see what size it is.

I'd be curious to know the size/dimensions of it if no one else is. I'd appreciate the info.

Something isn’t CJ or YJ in your parts mix. CJ and YJ are the same taper.

Entirely possible. I think the donor was a YJ. Just trying to be sure of the size and taper before I lay out the $$$$

You could just drill it out and tack a Goferit insert in. Probably cheaper than a reamer.

I've been known to loan my reamer. I just got it back from a forum member. I'll get a pic in a few.

Pic of the Snap On reamer. This is the one to use with the OK4WD inserts. Someone forgot to send the bar you use to turn it back but I will look around to see if I have something that will work.

Best I can tell after a little research, the 7deg. or 1 1/2/ft is the correct reamer. Correct? One I found on E bay, Amazon or ?? listed the snap on r121 as the same taper.

I chucked it up in drill, slow speed, copious amounts of cutting oil and checked often. Still overshot it on one side. Hahahahahahaha! That thing cuts fast!
