So, listed locally was a windshield frame for an ECJ5, described as being for a Tuxedo Park. No pics so, I contacted the seller asking for pictures. The pictures showed a late ECJ5 frame with the electric wiper motor mounted on the outside and some sort of aluminum skin pop riveted to the inside bottom of the frame, running the length of the frame. Not where the rubber seal is but the inside area that faces the interior of the JEEP, where the windshield latches are. It looked like the stuff they make walk in freezers out of.

I told the seller that I had never seen this on a Tuxedo Park and I thought it was some sort of patch or repair. Just heard from him and he said the windshield was sold and he researched it and found that the aluminum skin was correct.

I call BS for 2 reasons. 67 was the last year for the Tuxedo Park and I thought vacuum wipers were still being used in 67. I could be wrong on this though. And, I have never seen in any picture or on any Tuxedo Park in person, nor ever heard of, this aluminum interior panel.

Please confirm or deny my suspicions.

I'm sure you are correct in calling that w/s frame BS. A Tux used the same frame as any other CJ from '63 -'67, and no, they never had and extra trim or cladding, at least from the factory. I've checked out/documented over 30 Tuxes in person, and never seen one as you described. I have seen some interesting personal modifications on some though.

I have seen a Tux with a chrome plated w/s frame once, and the guy claimed it was a from the dealer that way. I know that wasn't factory original, but could have been a dealer accessory? I've seen another chromed frame on eBay a few years back, so they may have been offered as an accessory at some point in time. By the way, the chrome frames look horrible. They are all rippled and wavy, and the chome just accentuates to poor 'body work".

The only thing Tux on the windshield was the hood stand offs and the hinges which where chrome. I think the foot man's hoop for the windshield tie down strap was also chrome. The mirror was also chrome...

As for the wipers, late ‘66’s had switched to electric wipers. My early ‘66 has vacuum wipers still. Both are still top mounted.

I googled pictures of 67 cj5 and most of them show vacuum wipers FWIW. I'd be curious to see actual sales advertising or factory info on this in addition to the first hand accounts provided here.

I wonder if the buyer "bought" the story along with the windshield.

Did Jeep ever have electric wipers at the top of the windshield? I though some did from the factory in the last years of Kaiser Willys...

Doesn't Maury's 1966 Tuxedo Park have electric top mounted wipers?

Those electric wipers must be rare otherwise I would think a lot of people would have upgraded to them over the vacuum wipers...

Haven't looked in years but I'm pretty sure my 66 V6 Tuxedo has vac wipers and I know the other 66 V6 Tux that was recently dismantled also had vacs. Or was the page you posted from a '67 manual or something.

Looks like still another murky area in JEEP history, perhaps. Perhaps. Or maybe I'm the murky one.

    It’s a late model manual.
Mighty Mouse was a ‘67 tux with electric wipers. No idea if they were factory or not. I might have a pic somewhere.
