On the rear diff, open = turn one wheel and the other wheel goes the opposite way. Limited slip or locked = turn one wheel and the other wheel spins the same direction.

Thank you! I just thought with Posi if a person held one wheel, a person forcibly turning the other wheel- that it would at least move a little. Shows what I know:(

Might be true - never tried it...;) Seems like a good posi wouldn't allow the "slip" to happen, but not sure.

Hi guys, I'm back;) Had a little vacation in Florida, but so happy to be back! My brother n I finished up some stuff on his Willys, then this afternoon I was able to get back on my '68;)

Obviously pulled the dauntless from the nasty frame; didn't have the right bolts to mount it on the engine stand, perhaps I can make that happen tomorrow. Then going to put the frame in my "clean" shop to dismantle it. The flywheel surprised me as to how heavy it is! I mean I knew it was going to be heavy just by looking at it!

Not sure what I'm going to do with the engine, perhaps let the guys who built my brothers F-134, looks simple enough. It ran pretty good~ meh, don't know right now.

Darn, time to make dinner! grr

Word of warning - don't drop the flywheel on your foot - it hurts - A LOT - DAMHIK ... :banghead:

If your engine shop knows old engines - they should be OK with the Dauntless. One thing to ask about is decking the motor - only the older guys with experience know about that.

I truly need some help here~ now that the frame is in an observable location, I couldn't help notice the front bumper/frame being "tweaked" back a bit.

So, here the center of the frame is "level"

This is the left rear, I don't think the rear bumper is that tilted downward, just an illusion, but I'll have to double check, but that wasn't so much the concern.

below: keeping in mind someone put in a saginaw power steering gear and the steering shaft did go through the front crossmember by way of a cutting torch. But notice the tilt upward of the frame? Surely it's not supposed to look like that?

    Here the Right front frame~
    [IMG]

This doesn't look right at all
    [IMG]

and again the right front frame just behind the front bumper.
I'm thinking that when someone installed the power steering gear, they felt they needed to take a rosebud torch to the frame as an "adjustment?":banghead::confused: ( don't know, but doesn't look right) My brothers '62 jeep has a different frame so I can't compare.

just for an added attraction, this is the Left rear spring perch and for shocks it has rear load leveler coil over shocks.

Ok, going to make a smoothie, I'll be back;)

If it was in Michigan I'd say that was a plow Jeep.

hm, didn't think about that, but who knows the history, but not shown in the pic, the person which installed the steering gear, took a lower chuck of the steel bumper out to accomodate the front end of the gear.

Another revolution of the Earth is just about done~ I feel I did pretty good today;)

    I put the frame close to the ground to get the axles/springs unbolted;

Then lifted the frame and used my Little mule to move the heavy axles out of the way for another day;)

I put the frame on my low/tall jack stands to make it more stable(and level) when I bring my cutting torch/cutting tools to work on the front frame in question. I was sure hoping to mount this frame on my rotisserie:(
    [IMG]

the steering gear was attached via this steel plate which is welded just about all the way around including on the spring perch, and the rag joint, the shaft is welded and has to be cut and have to look for another means for a steering column/shaft. I'll have to search on here the correct method for steering mounting, etc.

I'll probably repair these rough cut holes unless this works, but's pretty shoddy, just don't think I could live with that!~

Engine mounted; project for another day~

    Nope that ain't right. :(

Find a body shop with the frame puller, resist the urge to heat & bang- the steel used in those frames does not like heat, there's a warning about that in the FSM.

Gee Howard, the person used heat apparently to mess it up, so it's already messed up:( . I'll look at it in the morning, maybe I can make cut in the frame to bring it back to "square", then weld in re-enforcement panels on both sides, or look for another frame(rather not) :(

If it's already heated that much it may be trash- if you straighten it it may very well bend again. I'd look for a set of replacements from a junker. TIG/MIG is alright, oxy torches are a no-no. When I got Tonk's frame straightened, despite me warning them, they used a torch on one spot- changed the metallurgy enough that it was visible different from the surrounding metal & would rust like nobody's business before I got paint on it; thankfully it was not a in a critical spot.

Thank you Howard;) I actually don't know for certain that the frame was heated, just looks like it was. I'm going to look for another frame, but I am going to see what I can do with what I have. I'll never go trails and put the jeep through stress. It will be a show jeep~ let me see what I can do and with any advice is super welcomed!! I'll post pics as I go along(of course;)

You may want to contact, Mike at Rapco Parts Company the last time I spoke with him, he mentioned he had a few frames. He may have what you need.
