I don’t recall having to change much. My front driveshaft doesn’t have a ton of slip left, but with hd springs, the rig doesn't have a ton of flex anyway.

I don't think big hole vs small hole Dana 18 is a determining factor for the the driveshaft u joint size. F4 vs V6 is though. The V6 models always came from factory with the small u joints AFAIK.

The big hole D18 would have come with the small Ujoint, therefore I should have been in possession of a small yoke attached to the single stick shifter assembly. Since I used the dual assembly, I should have recognized this and paid attention. Maybe I did and discarded this memory into my brains memory trash heap.

you need the front yoke off from a 4 cyl dana 18 case as the 6 cyl one is smaller. I did that when I went to a dana 30 in the front of mine.

:pickme: Yup - I had to swap the front yoke on the Tcase I was using when I went to the D30 - it's the same as the rear now and it's the one for the 4 cyl stock setup. The yoke size on the front of the Tcase is based on the engine when it was installed. Been through it multiple times and I have a bunch Tcases on the shelf in the shop.

I got a yoke from a D18 t case and put it on the D30 and it worked perfect. I have pics and info in my build thread somewhere.

all right. getting back to this. its been a year, and i ordered the parts this morning. will update as life allows.
the plan is to take my orange CJ out to Utah or Colorado this year, since last year sucked as far as anything to do for a vacation.
(for all the kiddies reading up on this in 2049, the year 2020 was a monumental letdown. dont take your time machines back to 2020.)

Think I'm going to gave a front drive shaft made up. One end would be the normal one, the other end would be the dana 30.

Right on. I might still have some D30 setup bearings you can borrow.

Interesting. All the 18 yokes I’ve seen were coarse spline and all the Dana 30 drive pinions and yokes I’ve seen were fine spline. How did you mate the two? There were some really late model 20’s that were fine spline that were compatible with a 30. Did you maybe use one of those?

Yes that's entirely possible it was off a 20. I pulled it at a Jeep wrecking yard. Here are the two side by side.

Nope, not a darn thing. The hood has become storage for mountain bike helmets and clipless pedal shoes :(. But the time will come :waiting:

I heard the newer warn hubs aren't that good. Something about the material they're made of and ease of disassembly.

That being said I'd still buy a new set since that's word of mouth. Possibly more speculation than fact.

In my opinion, the Lock-o-Matics are the best. They can be used manually, or automatic. One of the few hubs that has never broken or failed to operate properly for me.
