So..... When I discover that's the problem , I'll need to order a thin ring gear from the gear guy ? :( I seem to be going backwards on this install …….

UpDate : There are no such thing as Thick or Thin Ring gears ....o_O

Compare you two cases side by side as shown above.
Are you changing the gear ratio ?

No , I'm reusing the existing Ring & Pinion. I previously measured each one, end to end, & they are the same ? However , I have not compared them side to side ? I'll try to do that later tonite. Thanks.

    Yes James,
I went ahead and already pressed the bearings onto the Trac-loc case...... WITHOUT shims  I've revisited my TSM & your advice . I have ordered a shim kit from Randy's. I am about to order new Timken's for the Case, because I'll most likely damage them on removal ? If I don't , I could ream them out & use them for set up ......... Like I was supposed to in the first place. I can't tell you guys why I jumped the gun on this....... Maybe ' Cuz of the cold & waiting on getting this job done ? Now it has cost Me !!!
Thank you all for your advice & patience. I messed this up & I am better than that.....It's embarrassing to say the least !

no worries...I am struggling to just install a new MC etc...I am so frustrated by it right now that I decided to go for a walk in the snow with my wife and am now pouring myself a few fingers of Knob Creek...supposedly its a fun hobby, but it sure don't seem that way some days!

I'd say to post up pic of your two cases side by side to ensure that you don't have an issue with the gearing/series of the two cases (like ITLKSEZ has suggested). Once that is cleared up, then you will need to determine how much to shim the bearings...As you are swapping cases, you will probably need some minor adjustment to the bearing shims, but a great starting point will be to determine how much shim thickness was used on each side of the old case (will have to pull those bearings and then measure the shims with a micrometer - keep each side separate and write everything down). You still might have to make some minor adjustments to the shims (and thus remove and reinstall the bearings - thus the set-up bearing's use becomes clear). Also...before you do anything with the old case - wondering if its worth the trouble to re-install the old case just as it came out and measure the backlash and get a paint pattern - assuming you install the new case with the old R&P, you are going to want to try and match the backlash and pattern to what it was previously....at least that is what I did when I swapped out my case....

    Thank You James,
One MUST follow procedure 1st & tricks of the trade 2nd. I appreciate that very few of us are certified CJ5 technicians, so it's more important than ever to heed carefully , our other member's experience . Also , of course, The TSM......as timgr has often said! I will post those pic's after our next storm system passes..... most likely by Sunday.
I do have a fair knowledge of brake systems , although my recent work was Rebuilding my ' 75 with a GM Hydroboost system. All brake systems are very similiar , from the MC to the wheels. If I can be of any assistance, please reach out. BTW, I did recently struggle with some bad parts , so now I can point out Whom to use & what to watch out for.
    Peace,
    Richie

So.....Ryan is was correct. My '75 case is a Series 3 & I purchased the wrong case.
Also, James & Jeff were correct . My existing case had 2) .30 shims on the ring side & 1) .30 shim on the right side , under the bearings.
    Well, Here they are :
    F@$& me walk’n.jpg
    F@$& me walk’n . 2.jpg
    F@$& me walk’n x a zillion.jpg

The OEM case 's deck height is 2.152 & the new Trac-loc is 2.472 about 7/16 to 3/8 difference. I wish I could just run a thinner ring gear.

Thanks for all your guy's support in this lost cause.

Frustrating I am sure....but now that you know what the problem is you can start making progress towards fixing it...although a double bourbon might be on order first....

I feel like there is trac loc cases for 3.73 and down (numerically lower) for sale quite often - they aren't really all that desired. I'll take a look around here - I know they pop up quite often. I would think a call in to Daryl might result in finding a good used trac loc...Or...you could really bite the bullet and buy a new aftermarket case like a selectable locker or limited slip.

I've got to run, but I'll drink a bourbon in your honor tonight and let's see if members on here can help you find a good solution.

May be a stupid question here : Do you guys think that I could swap out the side gears , clutch packs & spiders from my series 4 case to a new series 3 case ? I can get one , new , for 40 bucks ?

So..... Besides Maker's Mark or Beam , for medicinal purposes only, I'm looking at the Auburn Gear Professional LS. Fairly decent price. More research on this 50 year old Company to come ?

So what gear ratio are you trying to run? What spline count are your axle shafts?
I may have a low mileage take out D44 TracLok if it matches what you need.
I kinda warned about opening a can of worms!

    Thanks Donny,
Yes you did, my Friend. It started when I realized I got Ripped off. I was led to believe that I was buying a Series 3 case. Happy -go - Lucky here , thought I could just R & R , while also just installing new case journal bearings & cones's.
Anyway , I 'm running 3.73 gears in both , with 30 spline rear , 27 spline front. I do have a Series 3 case coming today. I'll swap in the side , spider's , & clutch packs from the one I bought previously. They are brand new, just in the wrong case for my Jeep.
Thank you for this offer & your knowledge , though.

Probably nothing. You shouldn’t be able to turn a newly rebuilt clutch-style LSD by hand.

Keep in mind, the axle sees thousands of lb/ft of torque. You’re trying to turn it with maybe 100.
