Finally getting back to work on the CJ after more than a year of health issues.

Finally got the radiator and fan shroud to fit to my liking. Now ready for hoses and t-stat.

I couldn't find a ready made gasket for the thermostat housing so I got a sheet of blue gasket material and cut one. Should I use any RTV or gasket goo? Top, bottom, or both sides?

    Thanks.

RTV sealant . I always smear a thin coat on with my finger . as to not mess up gasket when tighten

I hate RTV. A smear of #2 permatex, or a light coat of red spray-on type.

Old style would be a thin coat of grease, helps gasket seat same as o-ring lube does, and then the gasket is potentially reusable.

I found a tube of #2 Permatex. Got the gasket and housing put on.

I wasn't happy with the hoses I had so ran to the FLAPS and got some shorter ones. I got some funny looks from the counter lady when I told her I was working on a '63 CJ5 but the radiator was for a 65 Mustang.

    Thanks again guys.

Grease one side and glue the other is the way I was taught when dealing with places you have to remove to do service, like valve covers, and side covers. Good Luck

If everything's flat,(flat file flat will do), I like using nothing on the cooling system gasket.
I've seen several radiators full of rtv strings ,cloging the vanes.
Most everyone uses toooo much? It dries, then flakes off inside the system.

Paper t-stat gaskets always fail me. Just get the surfaces clean and flat, apply good rtv (permatex high temp), install and refill. No gaskets.
