I have a good buddy that works in the welding industry. He just got a plasma cutter that he said he'd hardly ever use, so he offered it to me on "permanent loan." I'm so excited to try it out!

Oooo! There are times I could have used that too. I did not even know it existed.

Plasma torches rock. I have used mine for so many things.

Do you have a link to instructions by chance? I'm intrigued.

Or are you saying you have the filter in the link, but use tp rather than a filter?

    Funny you should say that.

Last week the guy doing rocker panels on my F-350 started a fire inside the rear corner post. He had to punch a hole on the body to extinguish it.

Yes the motor guard filter will take tp sometimes the roll is a little large so you peel it till it fits snug.

X2 for a good moisture separator. I burned up two sets of consumables before I figured out what was happening. Otherwise, plasmas are great! I've had mine for about 10 years.

I must not be doing it right... so far my plasma experiences aren't that different from my O/A torch experiences. Of course I've just used it a few times where I flame-cut stuff for decades. Add to that my plasma experiments were always on somewhat thicker stock. I'm sure on thin sheetmetal it's lovely.

Most people don't realize a plasma is much like an O/A torch - right tip, right pressure, right mix = good cuts. The plasma has other tips and amp settings that need to be set to get 'the best she can be'. I have a Hypertherm 30 and it's sweet spot with cutting nice and smooth with stock setup is about 1/8 to 3/8" - turn it down and it does fine with sheet metal, add the fine tips and its great, extended and gouge tips and it's even more flexible. I can even slow down, pump up the air and amps and go over 1/2". Used and O/A for 30 years before the plasma, still have it for the thick stuff as I prefer it there and general heating, but it's used about 5% of the time now and the plasma is used the rest. So much easier to use most of the time.
