Yes, when my daughter was young I learned that "Can I do it?" actually meant "I want to try it once - and once only." :D

Today I got the first parts delivery for my dauntless swap/rebuild! My original plan was to just tear the motor down and make sure everything was in one piece, buy a gasket kit, and put it back together. The machinist got a little overzealous though, and bored the cylinders. 030 over after discovering a bit of pitting on a single cylinder.

So, I ended up getting new pistons, rings, freeze plugs, a double roller timing set, gaskets and seals. I've had a rebuilt t18, comp RV cam, fresh (leak free???) D-18, and fresh axles ready for a few years now. I'm excited to finally put them together and get the jeep on the road!

Can you elaborate? Do you mean extra horsepower? Lopier cam? I'm swapping from the f-head, so the dauntless should have all the power I'll need. My goal is to comfortably drive 65, while having a lower first gear than it did with the t-90.

Lopier cam or just a new cam and cam bearings in general. I do agree with you, I've too much cam in my 4.3 ( sae 269/284 202/213 @.05) but stock cams tend to be a compromise and restricted by emissions. at the time i built my motor I was focused on towing trailers, not lugging around obstacles.

I have a brand new comp RV cam (258 maybe)? It was the one that most people recommended about 5 years ago in the "hot dauntless" thread. I just want good general ice cream run performance plus trips up to the blue ridge mountains a few times a year.

I went to lock my hubs this afternoon. One locked pretty easily, but the other one wouldn't turn all the way to lock. It's awkward trying to get leverage on the recessed knob. I didn't want to bark up the knob with pliers, so I looked around my garage for something I could make a Hubber tool out of. I found a piece of PVC and cut a notch. I had to bevel the edge to fit.

Works great. It took ten minutes to make, from start to finish.

    Nice thinking.

Put a T or Elbow on the end for even more leverage.

Shout out to Geoffrey L for bringing me a new lift cylinder and lending a hand. Went fairly smooth

I put some clips and a cord on a cheap 12 volt LED bar, and hung it under the hood on my YJ with a bungie loop.

It works as a fixed under-hood light, or can be dismounted and moved around as a work lamp.

With my full float conversion done, and a certain Colorado trip in the plans for August, I felt I needed to test my 4runner-CJ5 towing set up. It worked excellent! I towed it around town a few miles this afternoon. By the way Toyota V8's are amazing. Sorry Chevy they just are.

I cleaned up the power steering brackets and the pump, going to rebuild the box in the next few days and I may finally get around to putting the power steering on Farm Jeep Willy!

Way back when I first bought my CJ, it had no brakes to speak of. Back then I just cleaned up and honed the wheel cylinders, re-using the seals because all the bleeder screws opened up. That was satisfactory for braking power. Each subsequent winter, I'd crack open the bleeders to firm up the pedal for the season. This year when I brought the CJ out of the garage for another winters use a few weeks back, the brake pedal was quite soft and after 2 days of use, it started to pull to the left severely when braking. Last Saturday I finally had a chance to get it on the hoist at work. The LF wheel cylinder bleeder broke off when I tried to open it (one of those 1/4 inch ones), so I replaced the whole cylinder with a new one I had purchased from Rockauto some time ago on one of those closeout deals. I had two LF cylinders on that closeout deal, but no RF cylinders. On the RF, I installed a new seal kit, which was also part of the closeout purchase. Brakes are quite happy again and no more pulling when applying the brakes.

Then the ground on the frame needed to be cleaned and greased...
