It won't shift with engine running, fine when off. Do I have too much clutch or not enough? What else?

    Thanks, David

Yes, just started this. Earlier only after an hour's drive, now even when cold.

I've been driving this vehicle for 10 yrs. This is a new problem!

Does it make any unusual sounds? Check the adjuster at the end of the clutch cable....give it a turn or two to shorten the cable a bit?

When clutch cables fail, they typically lengthen before they break (as the strands come apart). If so, you should see a lot more free play at the top of the pedal travel. This could cause the clutch to stay engaged even with the pedal down.

Anyone who works on their own car should be able to do a clutch adjustment. No more complicated than an oil change, I'd think.

When I took my Jeep to Israel in 1978 the clutch cable was one of several, not expecting to find and needing immediately, items I took with me. As it turned out I did need it when a repair was needed on my frame and the tech accidently torched my cable...hehe.
As this is an old blurb, hope you were able to get er up n going...

    cheers,

    willie
