So I have rebuilt my transmission, T-15 I have 1 large snap ring left that has a 45 degree cut on the ends like all of the other Eaton style rings inside the transmission and it looks similar in size of the ones that go on the input and output shaft bearings on the T-15. I used the new snap rings that came with the bearings, they are square ended like the ones on my old bearings, which I have accounted for, they are still on the old bearings. My question is did I somehow remove a snap ring from the transfer case drive gear that I don’t remember removing? This ring shows wear marks and I can’t find a schematic or a place on the gear that it may snap into, any idea where this goes?

I have all the diagrams too, the issue is this mystery Eaton snap ring, I don’t know where I took it off from, it has to go somewhere and it’s not in that diagram, I thought it might go somewhere between the transmission and the transfer case, I am stumped!

The transfer case input gear has a washer and nut to hold it in place, not a snap ring. Either you left out a snap ring from the transmission or you replace it with a new one from the rebuild kit.
Just an FYI, don’t rely on the snapring that comes with the bearing to be correct. Frequently they are thicker or wider than what is required. I’ve seen bearing retainers get cracked or broken because of this. Better off using the original snap ring. The ones that come with the bearing are generic and NOT application specific.

Just an added comment - most buy a rebuild kit for these transmissions, and they typically include what in the day would be called a "small parts kit." This has all your rollers and snap rings and thrust washers. You would also need the blocking rings and the main bearings to make a "complete" rebuild kit. The small pats kit from Jeep would come with a lot of extra parts, typically - presumably to cover all possible variants of the transmission. Proper procedure is to use your micrometer and replace the old snap rings with new ones of the same thickness and width. Visual comparison may not be sufficiently accurate. Or reuse the old rings, as Nick suggests.

I used to be that the small parts kit supplied 3 or 4 snap rings in different thicknesses so you could set the correct clearances. In recent years, Ive only gotten 1 snap ring in kits, and have had to use my originals, or dig out extras from years before.

I’m at the point of pressing bearings back on, I am not sure but I feel that I have pressed the transfer case bearing on all the way, I placed the snap ring back on after I pressed the front bearing, you can tell that you have pressed the front bearing far enough because you can’t get the shaft snap ring on if you haven’t. The rear is where I’m a little puzzled, I thought that the bearing snap rings set end play, I’m not sure but it looks like my old bearing shows a mark around the outside of the bearing that indicates that is not so, and the picture I took before I began tearing it down looks like it pokes out about where the mark shows on the old bearing. I have attached pics of old bearing and the new one that I have pressed on, looked similar. Should I try and press the bearings till the bearing snap rings on both ends are tight to the 25381216-8441-4B3D-AEC1-A16E558554DB.jpeg 43E7DD30-6F05-4977-AF4E-F0B6F9464A60.jpeg 425CC86D-FCC7-41EE-A4CC-A947A11C21E8.jpeg case? 25381216-8441-4B3D-AEC1-A16E558554DB.jpeg 43E7DD30-6F05-4977-AF4E-F0B6F9464A60.jpeg last image you can see the about 4 mm gap in seating all the way, this last image shows it with the output shaft housing just removed, so does the bearings center housings set end play? Or could rear bearing been replaced and never pressed all the way back on, the Jeep only has 55,000 original, there was really no reason to rebuild it but since I had it out, why not, seals and such, so thinking someone replaced the bearing at one time doesn’t seem likely, transmission is in very good shape!

The bearing is pressed onto the maindrive (input) shaft as far as it will go.
Upon assembly the outer snap ring contacts the case as it resides inside the bearing retainer.

The rear bearing is not the same as the front bearing and it does not even have an external snap ring groove.
    # 912362---------------T15/T18 maindrive-----------------------------------MRC 308 MG 4
    # 991076---------------T15 mainshaft---------------------------------------- MRC 308 SG (i think)

Note that these bearings are not of the the same thickness.

You are correct, so the rear bearing has been replaced at least one time snap ring is irrelevant! I will just press till it stops

You need to have correct thickness for rear bearing otherwise the rear bearing retainer does not function as required.
I'm certain that the rear bearing should not have a snap ring groove.

I'll try and remember to verify the correct SAE bearing number for the rear of a T15.
I generally prefer NOS Fafnir bearings or else the MRC brand.
