I have used his knuckle lube, steering gear lube and transmission/t-case oil. It has all been really good so far. It is not inexpensive, but he clearly knows his stuff and when you consider all the time and effort he puts into sharing his knowledge (especially with how busy he is), I figure it a good value to get the right thing and help support what he is doing.

I would recommend putting "Lubricant Order" or something similar in your email subject line. I think Brian gets a ton of email and responses to his youtube videos.

I did hear back today. The steering lub is $32 per quart, expensive as all get out, but I'm going to try it.

Cause i can get the gl5 stuff for free:D
I will say its not synthetic...

My service manager just asked me about using gl5 80w90 gear oil for his international pickup he got today for the same reason. The valvoline rep gave him a box of gear oil. Ive always collected whatever leftover oil from diff and trans services untill i had enough to change my fluids.

Only time ive noticed issues shifting is when I've leaked out enough oil which means its time to change it again:whistle:

I've seen pictures of dissolved yellow metals on the 2A page years ago from using GL5 oils.

This reasoning has a name - "the precautionary principle." Reasonable if the cost is acceptable to you.

    X2.

There is also in many cases common misunderstanding between the likelihood of an event, and the magnitude of the possible consequence.

Tail risk is unacceptable if it leads to ruin.

We switched over to valvoline services from bg's and noticed this when i did a transfercase today. Their ultra shift fluid is gl4 75w-80, but it is synthetic.

    But it is gl4:sneak:

Is any of the Brian Hainer/metalshaper lubes labeled as to viscosity or does it just come in unmarked containers?

He seems to suggest his regular transmission lube is heavier weight than 90 as he’s pumping it
into the open top of the T90 in this vid:

I am running his lubes, good stuff. Usually unmarked jugs, but I would email him, he offers several viscosities.
