I am looking to upgrade (actually replacing the worn out) clutch linkage of my 1974 CJ-5. I came across an older article describing the Barnett Performance Products replacement clutch linkage specifically for 1972 - 1975 CJ-5's (Part Number BP-CL7275) (Jeep CJ-7 Clutch Linkage Upgrade). I have been unable to find any references/source for this kit. Can anyone shed light on this company/product or has they/it gone the way of the Dodo and Passenger Pigeon.

I used one of those set-ups on my 84cj7 - really liked it. That was quite a long time ago, but i got it from Predator 4wd in Colo Springs...I might give them a call and see if they might still have some info on where to get one. If you can get to the owner, he is quite cj knowledgeable and helpful....some of the younger staff might not know much about the old stuff...

This upgrade is not difficult to do yourself. I've done it to both my J10 and CJ-6. The replacement joints are available from Mcmaster-Carr, and you can reuse the original rods - the original ball joints either thread on, or you can remove the existing ball joints. The originals are crimped and spot-welded to the rods; I used my bench grinder to remove the joint, then threaded the rod end to accept the new joint. Look at all the options - McMaster-Carr - choose the type you like. The McMaster-Carr parts will be high quality.

I just talked to Mike at Barnett Performance Products out of California. 714-633-0991

He is a true Jeep guy!!! He loves four wheeling. He and his brother bought the company from their dad 29 years ago.

The clutch kit is $189 he has some in stock. Sounds like a well engineered kit.

He has a lot of great CJ parts and solutions! Give him a call...

TandJPerformance.com will be the new website. It should be up in a few weeks.
