Eh - I guess I won't answer all your questions here then since I just did in your PM (y) I always do them first...

Let me know what you need, glad to help and if you get back up this way we can do that SM465 you want as well... I also have some other trannies in the shed (4 speeds). You can also get a first hand look at the 'mess' your getting into :D

I did some work on the windshield frame last night.

    Started like this..

I cut the top sheet metal out keeping the corners in tact...

Cut the rest of the rot out above the corners...

fit in new sheet metal so the one big part can go in without crazy corners.

Some welding and lots of grinding..

Now I just need to find someone who can make a couple tight bends for the windshield channel. The two shops I checked with already could not make such small tight bends. Last option may be to make a die that I can clamp and beat the two bends into metal. This shouldn't be to hard as a friend has a mill and said it would only take an hour or so to make the dies.

That would almost work! Needs to be a little deeper. Do you think a deeper flange would work with that type tool?

Here is the bottom of the windshield flange. Anyone think I could just treat this with rust restorer and put it back together? Or would that Leak?

Don't cut corners. You are into the repair this far. Do it right the first time and be done with it.

I don't really know. I just looked up the cheapest dirtiest search for a flanger I could quickly post.

I saw this one for sale on facebook and before I could figure out how to justify buying another jeep you snapped it up! You got a heck of a deal.

Got the transmission and TC out of the donor.

Had just enough water in transmission that no oil, only water, got on my hand as I pulled the plug!

Couple small steps done this week. Got the tranny and TC separate and 90% cleaned up.

Tonight I got both axles off the donor and scrap man is coming at noon tomorrow for the frame.

Learned a good trick after working on 2 U-bolts for 10min. Use the angle grinder/cutoff wheel and cut the bolts right on top of the axle. The rest or the 6 bolts took like 5 minutes total.

Ordered $200 worth of 231 parts from rock auto. Timing chain, water pump, fuel pump will be first. The engine turns over and valves go up and down so I’m thinking it will be good.

Two broken bolts on water pump and one on timing cover. All came out easy once cover was off.

Install a cam and lifters. Every one of those V6 engines I had round lobes and a couple crushed lifters. All were dished.

Any way to check that without pulling the heads? I’ve never been any deeper into an engine than this. :(

Pull off the rocker arm assembly, take out pushrods, pull out the lifters, take off timing components, pull out cam. Installation is reversal of removal, but follow the manufaurers instructions for cam and lifter break in upon start up.

This manual is for the 225, 225 Cubic Inch V-6 Engine, 1966 Buick Chassis Manual .231 should be similar.

You can't sell that frame for some decent cash money [or donate to another Jeeper]?
