Does anyone know what type of fasteners were used for welting on top of the radiator support on mid 60's cj5's?
The reason I am asking,is that my jeep has wire clips that push through the welting and into holes in the support, they look like exterior trim clips for chrome or stainless, not split rivets like in my welting kit. (could these be original?)

I vote Yes. The replacement kids seem to come with rivets.

Thanks Focker, I've not seen these clips on welting before. Never paid attention to where you are from, only about 80 miles from Yak!

My 69-70 had them. There was a thread, where a vendor was found that still offers them.

So I guess can say they are original. None are broken, so I'll be careful removing them. I ran across a company in Yakima that said they can get these clips or darn close to them, so I'll be talking to them soon.

Found a company in Oregon that sells the 1/2" size, the same size that is on my jeep for about $7.50 for a box of 100 ea. (1-800-652-5202) Company name is " PERFECT FIT UPHOLSTERY "
Could not come up with company in Yakima.

AUVECO I believe is the same company, as their catolouge says Perfect fit, so thanks!
    I'll probably buy a box, although I don't know what I'll do with 100!

While we're on the topic of welting, did the welting on the winshield rests use these clips originally 0r dis they use split rivets?

My 1967 was without windshield rests probably removed by po. I purchased a pair, painted them black, and attached welting with split rivets and they look very nice, the rivets give a nice finished look. (I know this didn't answer your question, just thought I would let you know what I did for mine)

Resurrecting this so I don't start another thread.

The grill welting on my 53 M38A1 was attached with split rivets. After some google time it looks like I'll need a special rivet tool to attach the new welt. I'm not familiar with the clips but might me interested if it will be easier. The existing holes on the top of my grill look like they are too small to fit the clips through. Does anyone have a pic of the grill holes for comparison? Also, a pic of the clips installed?

I borrowed the "special tool" from a member here. (i don't remember who). It wasn't necessary as you can split them fairly easily with pliers.

My stock '56 has bi-furcated (split) rivets as OEM for both the hood and the w/s rests.
