3BE3E72B-93E1-46FD-B957-7F4E332FB7B7.jpeg I need this bushing and I can’t find anyone that offers one. Any ideas? I have seen a nylon bushing that I guess takes the place of both parts shown here but I can’t get the metal part out of the tube so I just want to replace the nylon bushing part (but I would buy the assembly if that was the only way to get the bushing). Where can I find one. I’ve searched the web and most of the vintage jeep places. There is probably an easy place but I haven’t found it.

You won't find it....it was part of the original bushing...not sold separately.

Can you measure the dimensions? Should be easy to fab a replacement out of suitable material, UMHW is tough & machinable.

I’ll replace it with a bushing from Barney’s that replace both the metal and the sleeve with a one-piece unit. If anyone needs that OE metal piece I have one.

The pics are in reverse order from how it happened.

Just for the record, if someone want to machine that bushing sleeve
    ID is .87
    OD is 1.03
    Length is 1”
And it has a 1/16” - 3/32” lip on one end to keep it from moving up into the tube.

I had to remove the column and get a thick oak 'staff', put it in the column and tap out the old bearing. The tight fit holds in the new bearing. A bit of Dremel work was needed to get the bearing to fit.

You might be able to do it with the column in place but it is pretty easy to remove.

Up top the brass turn signal switch 'ring' that goes around the inner steering shaft prevents that inner shaft from being pulled straight up and out. That drove me crazy. I could not figure out why the steering wheel and inner shaft would not just lift right out.

I shimmed the bottom end with the large diameter fender washers where the u-joint goes to get a snug fit. There is a spring up top right under where the steering wheel is which puts pressure up on the inner shaft. So for installation, you have someone push down on the wheel while you place your washers and then the u-joint holds the inner shaft in place.

I really hated that the lower bearing is just a machined brass ring and not a ball bearing. I tried to find a kit to remedy that but could not find one. Boy the solution was simple.... I bought a flanged bearing with ball bearings. It is 22mm inner diameter and 37mm outer. It takes a slight bit of sanding with a Dremel (on the inner steering shaft itself & the inside of the outter steering 'tube') to fit. Let me know if you have any questions! It works great......
