Ross Box Replacement

My steering "sticks" then turning left and way too much wheel "slop" or play now. What IS failing? By "slop" or play to describe the issue when actually driving is to write the steering wheel turns and does not move the attached steering components AT the front wheels. I am reusing a Ross box system. I have the actual un rebuilt lower box as a spare. I will use the current steering shaft and attached steering wheel and tube and pinion and steering link bars to the axles. What do I need to mark with some indication of proper realignment for re assembly where? Are my question right? Thanks

 

If you clean-up the Ross box and components really good, there is actually an alignment line stamped on both the sector shaft and pitman arm to ensure you get the splines aligned correctly.

 

So remove the cover plate for inspection and see what is MISSING and or flats on the cones? Yes v6, m38a1 steering box type? I need the guy that looks like a huge point spanner that goes thru the bottom to the pitman arm?

 

If it is the larger M38A1 or V6 Ross box, you will need the 15/16" sector shaft. Quality of the reproduction ones has been questionable. I have not tried one of these myself, but I am hearing that these are good quality...and a reasonable price. The replacement 15/16" sector used to cost nearly $300 and was likely junk. Do some searches on here, maurywhurt has a good write-up on the rebuild process.
