Fellas, how much fork travel should the TO bearing have when installed?
When my TO bearing is contacting the fingers, I have at least an ince of space behind the TO bearing to the face on the bearing retainer.

    71, 231 oddfire, t14. 1 piece bell.
    Valeo clutch 52641412. RockAuto.
    Novak hydraulic slave, and fork.
Purchased 1697c TO bearing, cause that's what came out of it.

Followed Novaks measurement guide and thought I needed a TO bearing just over 2", called them and was told that an adjustable pivot ball would help.
Ordered a hays 84-116 adjustable stud.
Threads on my bell are 7/16. Threads on adj ball stud are not.
    Lost.
    Help!

    Thanks,
    JT

My guess is you have the wrong pressure plate for your application. You need a different pressure plate that is deeper/thicker to the fingers where the throwout bearing rides. As an alternate, possibly a taller throwout bearing carrier, the iron casting the bearing presses on to.
There are pressure plates where the fingers lay fairly flat (likely what you have) and others with a more steeply angled fingers that make the plate assembly taller, if placed flat on a table.

Forgot to mention, it has a flywheel that has a lip on it, but that clutch bolted on it fine.
It it the God awful heavy flywheel.

That sounds like the stock 225 Dauntless flywheel.

How would I go about figuring out which one is deeper?

That would be what is called a raised finger clutch, right?

Clutches are kinda new to me, so treat me like I'm dumb here. Hahahahahaha.

    Thanks,
    JT

I just installed a new clutch in my jeep t-14 tranny.i also have the one piece bell housing the clutchfingers on mine is the flat type .the pivot pin in bell housing is long enough on mine that I put a nut about 3/8 thick on it then screwed it in to bell housing it works fine. The threaded end of pivot on mine is about 1 1/2 inches long.

How much room was behind your TO bearing when it was up against the fingers?

If you mean from fingers to throughout bearing now about 1/16 of an inch before adding a 3/8 thick nut on to threaded end of clutch pivot to extend it the clutch fork would hit the bell housing (at cable end)before the throw out bearing could touch clutch fingers about 3/4 inch away . Pivot does not have to move out a lot to make end of fork to move more do to the ratio. I hope this helps I am trying to explaining this the best I can.

My clutch kit was a Luke 01029 from rock auto.the old pressure plate had fingers with bolts on it . My old one was about 7/16 of on inch taller.but throw out bearing and carrier was same length as the old one.

Yes, I think I understand. I'm just trying to find out how much space from TO bearing to shoulder of retainer is normal when TO is resting against the fingers. Right now, mine has at least an inch of space. I think the raised diaphragm clutch you mentioned you are using will work with mine and push it all back.

    Thanks,
    JT
