TimE will probably have the exact part numbers, but the Richmond kit he mentioned with timken bearings should have all 4 bearings and races plus some new shims that will be needed as the old ones will be damaged when removing.

FinoCJ, the kit TimE mentioned I think it was for the Dana30. I need one for the 44.

No worries Richmond has a good kit for it...both Tim and have used them recently. Get you more info when I get home.

I used the Richmond gear as Tim helped me get what I needed and he was familiar with their stuff...these kits include all 4 bearings and races as well as new ring gear bolts and shims for both pinon and carrier bearings, as well as pinon seal, gear marking compound, cover gasket and RTV. For our early jeep D44 axles you need either
XL-1033-1 - this kit used koyo bearings and is a bit cheaper
83-1033-1 - this kit uses Timken bearings and is a bit more expensive
Differential Bearing Kits from Richmond Gear
These kits can be found on Amazon - just search for the part number. I ordered mine through JEGS with a small discount for just a bit more than can be found on amazon, but with free shipping and I wanted to make sure I had good customer service if needed.
Although I did not use their stuff, I would also consider using Yukon gear rebuild kit as well - part number YK D44-19
YK D44-19: Yukon Master Overhaul kit for Dana 44 differential with 19 spline
I just rebuilt mine when I installed a rear locker...see here: Fino's 1970 Mini Build Thread
Tim and other members here were very helpful with the process. It takes time and some attention to detail. As mine was a later 30spline Trac lok unit we ran into a small issues with inner diameter of the carrier shims - you should not have that issue).
Also Tim posted a great step by step video in post 222 of my build thread, see here: Fino's 1970 Mini Build Thread

    hope that helps a bit....

Another dumb question: other than disassembly, how do I know if it is a 19 or a 10 spline shaft? I'm trying to get the right kit and all of them specifies a spline count and I don't know which one to use.

By '62, you should have a 19 spline axle, provided its original to the Jeep. I'm not sure why a bearing kit would be different between 10 and 19 spline axles. The only difference would be the drive gears in the spider pack.

Pay close attention to the shims on reassembly. They are very important to the life of your wheel bearings.
