Your not going to do the priority oil modification? Its an extra insurance policy and isn't too hard to adapt. The AMC V8 oiling system left a lot to be desired.

Thought about it. Read a lot about it. I decided this mod addressed a design shortcoming that may reveal itself in sustained and regular high RPM use, and was not needed for a more or less factory build engine that isnt spun hard or fast. Two data points for this conclusion are the bearings removed from the two 304 Jeep engines I tore down this year.

And I also read of two cases where guys had terrible oil pressure after rebuild. One guy failed to tighten his fitting and it came apart. The other guy knocked it apart when installing his intake.

After working in quality dept for locomotive diesel engine plant for around 17 yr I no longer accept the statement "it can't hurt" as applied to doing extra stuff to an engine. Post-test bearing inspections is a good example. It CAN hurt. Non-standard work performed outside of normal process comes with a 10X higher risk of introducing defects and resulting in injury (my informed estimate). Adding more oil joints increases oil flow to #5 when executed perfectly. It also creates cast iron debris in your main oil feeds to the main bearings. It also creates additional joints in main oil feeds. Sure, just be perfect at everything and nothing can go wrong. If I thought the mod gave any practical benefit to my application I would have been very careful, triple-checked my work, and plumbed the extra line. I'm not a believer that 99% of AMC drivers benefit from the mod. One man's opinion.

I smoothed the oil ports in the pump and matched the timing cover to the block no other oil mods fifty plus cold idle and thirty five idle hot.

That's crazy that they made a toy replica of the near mythical 76 CJ5 Super Jeep. If the 73 is rare, the 76 is a unicorn/pegasus hybrid.

Replacing rear cross member with one from Classic. Has the reinforcement double section. Not 100% sure the rear horns havent been reinforced. Using a bolt fish to pull the bolts through the boxed section.

Well, with 20 yr of ironworker experience one learns a trick or two. But since I've never been an ironworker I'll just make something up. Top bolts will be trouble because the gas tank bracket bolts are pret' near in the way. Might be able to get a socket on. But first I have to get ahead of myself and drill some holes for the drawbar. And fetch some bolts from hardware store. Which isnt far from the liquor store.

If I go 1 hr between posts someone call 911.

Loctited, torqued. Heaven help me if I ever want to change shackle bushings once the tank is installed.

Tank flanges were unnecessarily wide so I cut back close to the welds. This should help to install and remove. Now to prime and paint the bare edges.

Yes, I made peace with The Maker and kissed my wife and kids before doing this.

View of custom bent stainless 2-1 exhaust before body goes on. Muffler is Flowmaster series 40. Had to run it in snowy slush once, and exhaust pipe stainless isnt like your Buck knife steel. It WILL rust, but not badly or deeply. Note the nice work on the Y section, and exit which is tucked up high and tight.

And yes, winter with no top. Lots of Carhartt and a motorcycle helmet with face shield.

Tank is back in. Previously unable to get it high enough to fit skid plate. Having trimmed the tank weld flanges I think it'll go now. Had to trim the tank mount straps as shown, next to the stainless 5/16 bolt.

Huh. I'll have to check my TSM to see how it is intended. Having the bracket beneath makes tank removal a virtual impossibility. It may be that even as I have it rigged. The intermediate tank mount seems hastily designed.

Look'n Great , Chilly ! I honor your amount of work ..... it will be worth it when you are up & running. I think your doing your tank the right way, for future dropping and to get your skid plate to fit. I bought my CJ5 & had a Fabricating Wizard Friend who cut out the middle man & made a new tank entirely out of 1/4 " Stainless diamond plate ! It has a drain plug , lower forward, & the rear straps bolt right to the bumper.

I'm never gonna rock crawl with it , mostly 'cuz I'm not ready to meet Our Maker that way ! ( If I ever get rear ended , hopefully I can bail
before it burns ! )

I made provisions for a second tank under driver's seat but hooking it up isnt a priority yet. But as much as I hate working on rusty tanks I may just keep adding additional ones.
