I needed an air cleaner and a spacer for my '68 jeep project. There was no air cleaner in the pile of parts I started with. I ordered this spacer and an air cleaner from Speedway. It turns out the inside diameter of the spacer is a hair too small to fit over the lip of my 2G carb. I clamped the spacer in a Nova chuck in my 30 year old wood lathe.

I used a low-quality diamond shaped parting tool (made for wood) to shave a bit of aluminum from the inside of the spacer.

The spacer now tightly fits over the lip of the carb.

What's the hole in the spacer for?

That hole is for a set screw to tighten against the lip of the carb, but the lip isn't tall enough for the set screw. I'm trying decide whether to fill the hole with JB Weld or try and figure out if I can spot weld the hole shut with aluminum wire.

You could say it's a clean-air connection for your thermoelectric choke. It's a feature. I'd just plug it with a screw. Either Loctite in place or use a set screw with a nylon insert.
