The glovebox door spring is normally sandwiched between the right hand hinge and the bottom of the dash, mounted on the same machine bolt. Fit it with the curled tip aimed up, and pushing against the door when it is shut.

I've seen the non-slotted hood hinges w/oil hole on a '71 CJ5. I've always thought they were replaced with this style I know was used on the '72-up intermediates. Maybe they did phase in around 1970?

    To answer this belatedly...

I pulled the tank from my '56 today.

There are three strips of soft rubber, about 1" wide and 1/16" thick.
They run front to rear and are equally spaced.

Very much the same as the pad under the top strap.

For my M38A1 I needed thicker material to take up slack and found that the center-flat sections of rubber bungy cord made for a snug fit. I used some silicone based gutter sealant to hold them in place. Might be a better option available?

Anyone know what the three bolt holes in the inside of the passenger side front fender (below the battery holder) were for? These are on my early 1967 CJ-5 manufactured in August of '66. I'm guessing they may be a holdover from the M38A1, which had its heater located in that general area.

This photo of the holes was taken through the wheel well looking towards the rear:

Do you have a firewall mount battery holder? If so I believe those would be for a fender mounted oil bath air cleaner for the F4 models.

No, the holes shown are in the rear face of the inner fender....in the area located directly beneath the battery tray.

Howard, yes, my Jeep does have a firewall-mounted battery holder (and is a V6). You may very well be correct about the reason for the bolt holes in the fender.

Yeah with the introduction of the optional V6 the chassis mount battery holder had to go away so it went on the firewall & the (F4) air cleaner moved to the fender courtesy of an adapter bracket.

I have this voltage regulator on my fender. Not hooked up but I did put it back on after painting.
