so i have been fixing up a 68 cj5, it came with a new fuel tank which goes under the drivers seat, and a new 6 hole sending unit, somebody before me had a tank under the rear seat which i took out because it was shot, the fuel line from the old tank went to a hub thing that has a few lines running off of it including the original one that goes under the seat, its just hanging there of this hub thing, seems there not even plugged, can i just run the line from the new gas tank to the fuel pump and eliminate that hub.

Yes. That's an electric valve that switches between the tanks.

You would only need it if you're running two tanks. Since you're jeep has a V6, you need to detemine if your fuel pump has a return line. Other than that you should be good to run a new line. Mine was hard line with from the tank up the frame rail to the vicinity of the fuel pump, with a flexible rubber line to allow flex between the motor and the frame.

Be careful to route your line away from the exhaust.

i just had a look to see if my fuel pump has 2 lines, it does, coming from the bottom, but there's only one place to install on the new tank, what do i do with that line

So this can get confusing- 2 lines = one from tank and one to the carb. A pump with THREE lines has another return to the tank.

The setup with the return to tank line is said to be better as it will/can avoid "vapor lock". My understanding is that vapor lock is caused by fuel in the system getting hot and turning to vapor.

i see were the line from the carb goes to the side of the fuel pump, but there's still an extra line, so i wonder if this is for the old tank because it had the lines going to the top of the tank, not the 6 hole sending unit on the new tank, so can i just plug that line or what can i do

The tank with 6 screw holes is for the older 4-cylinder Jeeps. The newer V6 Jeeps used a tank with a sender that has a lock ring - no screws. The only steel tank available today is the 4-cylinder type. Plastic yes, steel no. The 4-cylinder type has no return line, and fed fuel to the carburetor from the bottom of the tank. The V6 tank takes fuel from the top can have a return line, also returning to the top of the tank, if so equipped. Read the thread, look at what you have.

You can put a T in the line for the return. Its not ideal but it works.

When I built my Jeep, I took the top off the fuel pump and rotated 180* to make it easier to make the new lines. The new lines go in the back and out the front, a lot easier than the inlet in the front and the outlet out the back, like it comes from the factory. Good Luck
