Ok, so it was finally nice enough to break out the Jeep last weekend. went about 1/2 a block and noticed the temp gauge was almost to the hot line. Turned around and coasted back home.

thinking as general maintenance I would replace thermostat and put in fresh coolant, which I did today.

When I got back in to start it back up I noticed the temp gauge needle was dead center on the gauge (no power on and had not been running in a week) When I started it, the gauge eased up to the hot line. it was almost there when the thermostat opened (160) and stayed right below the hot line.

    Fuel gauge is working fine.

Honestly think that if the needle was on C at the start, it would end up in the dead center temp position when the thermostat opened.

Also, the temp gauge was working fine when I parked it last fall. (don't think I have a mouse problem)

    Thoughts????

Sounds like you just need to bend the needle to "C" when it is turned off. Howard would know the answer, he knows about that kind of stuff, ohms, amps, and volts.

Is the pointer dragging on the gauge face?

Check the OHM on the sender and calibrate gauge that way

I "think" the gauge is working but the needle is just starting in the wrong place. is the needle rotation position adjustable?

took the speedo unit out of the Jeep pulled the glass, and speed face off, just moving the needle a little (to cold) to see if it would adjust and it just went back to the middle of the gauge. Moved the needle to the hot position and there was a VERY faint click, when I let go, the needle dropped to cold as it should. now has the spring loaded feel to it if you move it off cold. took the Jeep for a ride and the needle moved to just off dead center :) Don't know what the "issue" was but the little click seemed to "fix" it.
