Shackles

    What should I do, I have a 2.5 lift iam putting on and these are the shackles that are on right now. Do I use these ones or replace with something new shackle1.jpg

    Better yet. Look down in the classifieds and order a set from McRuff, if he's still making them. I haven't seen anything as nice, since Con-Ferr.

    I got a set of Warriors - the set that is 0.5" longer than OEM (they do come even longer). Second the vote for McRuff as well. Omix actually make a decent 'heavy duty' shackle that is OEM length.

    Nothing wrong with the C-shackles. I say use them. They are M38A1 style with the plates on the oputside. My boss used to run them on the Baja race cars ... good stuff. Not sure what can be done about the seals, likely they are available.

    Are yours frozen solid? IIRC left hand threads on one side? If they are frozen solid, you're going to have a heck of a time getting them out. If you can fix em, I would run them if you can make it work. Might not be compatible with new lift and might not come apart in one piece.

    I went with Omix because McRuff was not making them at the time. I'm not an Omix fan however i'm pleased with the shackles.

    The design McRuff uses he got from me - they can be made without the machining, but the machining makes them much better IMOP. If you want, I can take some pics and post them up for folks to try to copy.

    If you need to replace any parts, just look at military surplus for M38A1.

    If it ain't broke, why fix it???

    The first set of those I made the square stock was welded in place. Made them OK, but I much prefer the machining McRuff does... I had another guy local to me, but he is on the wrong side of the grass now and it was 'pre-McRuff machinist and good jeep guy'. Now you just have to convince him to do another run in his copious spare time :)
