68cj5 Bell Crank Bolt Removal

    how do i get the nut off the bell crank, the big bolt that runs through it all, i have all the other bolts loose but that big one i can't budge, what i'am i missing here, should the front be jacked up anyways

    There is a split in the collar the bell crank shaft/bolt goes through and a clamp bolt that goes cross-wise. You have to completely remove the cross bolt for the shaft to drop out. That's how it is on the earlier CJ's anyway.

    What Tim says, you have to remove the cross bolt through casting.

    ok got it out, went to put the new one in, that was a spare from the parts box and the the arm with the ball hit my pto winch shaft, i noticed the new one is thicker and think its a military one, can i just take off my shaft for the winch to make it work

    I can't help you with that question, I don't have a front PTO. All my bell cranks are the same. Good Luck

    IIRC the military is a different size, but YMMV. Bellcrank shaft diameter can be 3/4", 7/8" or 1-1/8" according to my parts book.

    The pto shaft is a very tight clearance at the best of times. Try adjusting the support bearing at the bellhousing, or possibly shim or lower the winch itself.
